Hendrix and Van Halen on the guitarist front but Hendrix and Page on an all round basis (I personally like Page the most as a guitarist anyway).

I choose Hendrix and my second would be Clapton followed by Van Halen. I find Hendrix to be the more creative one out of the three and to me Machine Gun is a guitar song that I put in the highest regard. Clapton has several bands that made great music especially with Derek and the Dominoes; that album just is a great fucking album the guitar speaks and sings for Clapton. Van Halen is just fucking cool and the first 4 albums of Van Halen are just fucking awesome; including the new one.

I find myself in the minority here but I find Page and Zeppelin to be overrated. By no means are they a bad band but I just find their music to be dated (even live) while Hendrix albums are dated his live performances just sound awesome to me. Clapton's work with Steve Windwood and Derek and the Dominoes is timeless and Van Halen is still kicking ass. So yeah Jimmy Page does not even register in my favorite guitarist same with his band.

Toss up between Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Van Halen. Both reinvented what it was to play electric guitar and I'm not going to hold one's being older and playing in the '60s against the other one. On pure guitar levels, I'd have to say it's a tie.

So, like this:

Hendrix/EVH

.

.

.

.

Jimmy Page

.

.

Clapton (the whitest of white boy blues)

Hendrix by a considerable amount.

Van Halen's debut is fantastic, but everything after that is pretty goddamn boring, including the guitar playing. Never really got into Clapton or Zeppelin too much, outside of a few great Zeppelin songs (outnumbered by the many 'meh' songs from them I've heard).

Fuck that man, that is fuckin' perfection distillate.

I know it is but have you heard The Lemon Song?! That vocal performance is perfection.

Not only the vocals, that groove by Bonzo and Jonesy is untouchable. Page had the far better band.

Especially when you consider JPJ made that whole bass performance up on the spot and its subsequently one of his finest moments on tape.

Keep in mind: This thread isn't about who's BETTER; It's who you enjoy listening to more.

Like, technically, Jimi Hendrix runs circles around pretty much every other guitarist in terms of ability and skill. But I much prefer the music Jimmy Page made.

In a way, I think people lie to themselves that they like every sound with a guitar Hendrix ever made. Good player, not the best writer, or singer.

Actually, from this list, Van Halen is the most skilled guitar player hands down.

Whilst I prefer Page and Hendrix, Van Halen could outplay both of them with his hands behind his back.
