Johnny Drama
Only in a dream could he outplay Hendrix.Who you like better does not equal technically better. Which is what the point was.
DieselDaisy
Depends on your definition of the words 'play', 'playing'. I do not contest that VH can 'widdle' faster than Jimi did. But 'play' - play with such grace, subtlety, soul - ? No.
James Bond
Perhaps, but technical ability refers to strictly technique - how many of which any given guitar player has mastered. I think that's what Johnny was getting at, and under those guidelines, EVH wins. Nothing wrong with liking Hendrix's playing better of course, it's all taste. But 'play' - play with such grace, subtlety, soul - ? No.It's not just about speed: he popularized the use of artificial harmonics, natural harmonics, tapping harmonics and, of course, two hand tapping. Not to mention that he was the man who invented modern tremolo techniques, he showed us all what a dive bomb was and helped Floyd Rose achieve it's current status... and there's eruption too. Also, he was a great keyboardistEd is my favorite from the list.Same here.
