That varries more than anything, at one end of the spectrom you have people who just casually listen to music in the car or to dance to when they go out to the club, on the other end you have people who are obsessed, they listen to music while working, in the car, and at home, a lot of these people also write their own music, and they're always looking for the next great thing that means something to them, to inspire them, to send shivers down their spine. Not everybody appreciates these things the same way, you can't hold them to the same standard. It's way more complicated than "the more artists you listen to the more you know", get over yorself

Val22 Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Why can't you just like the cd without analizing every little thing.It's not AFD, but I don't think that's what Axl was going for anyway when he wrote those songs.I think that many people thought Axl would continue along the lines of AFD, but you can't top a masterpiece like that album was and always will be.Those songs will hold up to the end of time.Not sure if CD songs will, but I still listen to the cd and I still like it. I also listen to AFD and also all the other GNR cds.I think being older, it's one of the reasons I like CD, but I still love AFD and listen to it alot too.I don't know if Axl has any more masterpieces in him to write and record and that saddens me, but Axl has time if he wants to continue to do new music, but if he doesn't, AFD will always be one of the best rock albums of all time. people will also remember CD either because they liked it or because it took so long to be released.Axl Rose will always be a rock icon no matter what he does or doesn't do for the rest of his life and that's a fact.

Occasionally, people can be hard-line critics. But here, it's harsh criticism every single day, bordering on Metal Sludge rhetoric. The problem is -- Axl's done a terrible job continuing the GN'R name.
Aussiegun Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 I think the majority of songs on CD are halfway there to becoming masterpieces, but generally just miss just something. IMO the only songs that sound great from start to finish is Better, Madagascar & Street of Dreams, but even then each of those songs have some hiccups in it (Better with the drum machine crap at start, Madagascar with the quotes in the solo, Street of Dreams without the The Blues intro)

That doesn't make me wrong. Those albums just obviously are more appealing to me than it is to the other stans.I agree that some bits of music are objective (particularly skill and greatness), but music taste is absolutely subjective. Estranged is a masterpiece to one person and an overdramatic borefest to another. I don't think either side (the loving or hating side) is "Ignorant" just because they happen to love or hate CD. That's silly.
