Salvation by a country mile.

Don't really think it's fair to include The Hobbit either, since first of all it's an adaptation, and secondly the source material precedes the source material for LOTR by about 20 years. I get that you're judging it strictly on the films, but still...

I'm actually going to say Terminator 3, because it really should have ended with Terminator 2. Ending it there leaves Salvation out of it anyways.

I do enjoy Terminator 3 - it's fun, Arnold's Terminator is as intriguing as ever, and the action is good. In terms of story though, it feels like a really unnecessary sequel. They literally had to cheat the logic of the second film just to allow a third film to exist, and once they do that, the plot is basically the second film rehashed. It didn't need to exist. Whatever plot holes one might find aside, Cameron tied up all the loose ends in Terminator 2. They defeated the T-1000, prevented judgment day, and destroyed all evidence of the terminators. Suddenly in the third film it changes gears to the "it's inevitable" notion, which actually opens up more plot holes as to why the second film would have played out as it did.

Actually, there's still one arm left behind in T2 in the steel mill, so they didn't completely prevent Judgement Day. But the plot of the third film isn't based on that so... whatever, I guess :D.

I enjoy both T3 and Salvation, but they're nowhere near as good as the first two. And I like Salvation a lot more than T3, because, with all it's flaws, they at least tried to take the franchise in a new direction and not just completely rehash the old movies.

I heard Warner Bros is wanting to make a prequel to The Shining. That would be awful.

Would be totally unneccessary and don't think it they should do that. It will be compared too much. Don't think it would work.

Salvation is myanswer by the way.

Toss up between Episode One, Jones and the 3rd Terminator (I have never seen Salvation). Episode one was the biggest let down of the bunch: so much hype, so much planning. But I actually feel Episode 2 was even worse. T3 the most, least needed - I agree with James Bond here. But finally I plumped for Indiana: too many memories of the poorly cgied Tarzan scene and the aliens things at the end. It seems to encompass everything that is wrong with Spielberg/Lucas these days. Horrid.

The Halloween movies got crappy after the first two. The first two are freakin' awesome and then they come out with this Season of the Witch bull shit? I mean, really.

Halloween 3 was great but it just wasn't a Halloween movie. :shrugs:

Well, I didn't say the second was without its plot holes. :P

You're right that it was good that Salvation at least tried a different direction instead of rehashing the same idea again, but I just didn't think it was a particularly well made movie. It was boring, whereas at least Number 3 was fun in the "turn off your brain and enjoy the Arnold action" kind of way.

Holy shit! I've seen T2 loads of times and just realized you're right. There is an arm left behind!
