sweetness Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Been reading this for the last 5 years, he must have at least 1,825 songs written by now and we haven't heard one of them
liers Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Who to believe.... A month ago bumblefoot said they have nothing, now they have a ton. Did they magically write a ton of songs in a month?Seriously though, if all the new album is waiting on is choosing what songs to put on it, just choose already. Do a double album, triple album, whatever, just give us new music.
Guest NGOG Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 The reality is very clear. DJ, like Ron and Richard, has added his parts to the follow-up to Chinese Democracy, whose core was developed during those decade long sessions. Unlike Ron, who wishes to focus on material totally from the present line-up (which is arguably a legitimite view), DJ is accepting of Axl's ambition to complete Chinese Democracy before moving onto a new project. The biggest obstacle is not the recording of an album but establishing a co-operation between the GN'R camp & Interscope/Universal.

Actually I don't know where you got any of that from, there's no indication DJ is working on leftover Chinese songs. He's said has demoed 12 songs that Axl liked, which I assume include the songs he's talking about now.
volcano62 Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I believe Ashba. Bumble likes to cupcake all you haters on the internet....
Nosaj Thing Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 DJ is accepting of Axl's ambition to complete Chinese Democracy before moving onto a new project.So... they'll be waiting 10 years to finally release an album of their own? I mean, I'm not a musician but I'd get fuckin' frustrated if I'm just playing other people's material or working on some other people's ideas. If this is true, then I see Bumblefoot leaving the band before CD2.
Rustycage Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 It would have to suck to be a musician in your prime and waste away in GNR thinking you will be able to display your abilities to write. How many collective years of the band's life has this process taken from them?
downzy Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I think guys like Fortus, Dizzy and Tommy have a firm grasp that being a member of GNR is a means to pay your bills and play before audiences they'd never get the chance to do otherwise. Believing that being a member of GNR means flexing your artistic muscles is a foolish proposition. In a way I kind of feel sorry for DJ. Still wearing those rose-colored glasses (pun intended) four years out.
Facekicker Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 New songs? What new songs? We've recorded nothing. Life keeps getting in the way. But yes, there are loads of amazing new songs. Axl has amazing things up his sleeve, I write songs everyday. We haven't been in the studio yet. What? How dare you question a lack of new material. I wouldn't say soon is the word. You'll hear new music this year and some surprises. What? Is that clear? Yes, yes, hamburgers for all.
Bruno P. Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 DJ's been saying the same thing for almost 4 years. Nothing happened. Meanwhile Ron said at the same time that a new record wouldnt happen fast so we wouldnt get our hopes up. Here we are, 3-4 years ahead of those interviews and we know who was right. DJ is bad enough at playing guitar so he should just shut the fuck up instead of running his emo ugly mouth talking about something that never happened. Ron, Tommy and the other guys reportedly played on a good handful of songs yet they dont claim "we recorded a lot, we gotta release the best stuff". The one that has nothing to do with that material is the one that talks openly about it like if he played on it. Pathetic.
Apollo Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 With so much material - why wait 5-6 years between albums? The remaining CD material. Songs written by DJ and the current band. The label isn't sitting there purposely not working with GnR. Nobody is out to screw Axl Rose and GnR. WHY is it taking so long to "work things out with the label."Axl has been in this business for almost 30 years. Beta is apparently the greatest manager to ever run GnR. Why is it literally taking years upon years up on years to figure things out with the label?GnR is a band with a large following. They have a ton of material in the vault and new songs being created every day.Bands release music. Why can't GnR.....or why does Axl and Beta choose not to?

Still wearing those rose-colored glasses (pun intended) four years out.Exactly...People got to remember that they're still free artists to have their own solo band acts or whatever they want to create as artists, it's not like they're just Axl's exclusive employees, so at the end of the day I believe they get a fair deal.
alfierose Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 If the problem is a hold up with the label then I'm guessing either they won't agree to Axl's requirements or he won't agree to theirs. Either way if something is resolved it sounds as though the only material near ready is the CD era stuff. If the plan for the next album is one recorded with the current lineup then I guess we will be waiting even longer.
IndiannaRose Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I really wish DJ would stop spewing this bullshit. It's fairly obvious that Axl is not interested in new music at the moment, and these meaningless statements are not going to fool anyone into thinking otherwise.

Ron already has his parts recorded on the other songs from his original sessions from 06-07, Richard has said that he was in the studio working on the album (was that last Summer?), and the only thing that makes sense is that DJ has been working on the leftover tracks. In all likelihood Frank recorded a few drum tracks, either replacing Brain's or adding to them a'la "IRS" and "Better", back in '06-'07 and Dizzy, Chris, and Tommy are long finished with their parts (probably since 2004 at the latest).
The Glow Inc. Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Maybe the entire quote was :"FUCK THAT, I didn't join Guns n' Roses to only play guitar. I write songs everyday, DAMNIT !"
BatVin Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I believe there is a nearly finished album of the CD leftovers and than there is a plenty of material which was composed separately by members of GNR except for Axl and which Axl haven¨t touched.
Chewbacca Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I really believe he is writing, but are they releasing it?
Guest NGOG Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I think guys like Fortus have a firm grasp that being a member of GNR is a means to pay your bills and play before audiences they'd never get the chance to do otherwise. Well let's debunk that theory straight away. Richard Fortus has filled the above criteria by touring with Thin Lizzy.

You showed that he knows he needs to latch onto has-been bands.

Read the current interview, DJ clearly states the band collectively have written tons of material, which obviously refers to the wealth of Chinese material DJ has very probably added parts to and his 3 or 4 efforts which are up for consideration. liers Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) I really don't care if the music comes from this band, the old band, the 2002 band, or axl singing over his cats meowing, I just want to hear new music. Edited February 21, 2013 by liers

It seems they have little to no skills on how to negotiate. Its like Team Brazils managing consists of, we don't like what the label says so were just not gonna say or do anything for a couple months,or years in this case. They seriously need to find somebody to kick Axl in his ass and say enough of the bullshit already or Axl needs to do it himself. There's no reason another album shouldnt be ready to go by now. With all the leftover songs and all the recent time off, it should be six to nine months away.Their all fuckin nuts if they plan on waiting each other out again...such a waste.
