Editing UYI into one album: Share your track listing

I bought these albums when they were first released, and have to say UYI 2 is my favorite. However, there are some songs on there I don't care much for... And there are even more on UYI 1 that I don't like. I'm going to edit both albums into a single album and listen to it to see what it's like... what you think would be the best Tracklisting?

I don't like the idea of editing it.. but I can't help but think, this track list would have been bigger than appetite..

Civil war

yesterdays

Don't cry

November rain

Kohd

14 years

Estranged

Breakdown

Live and let die

Locomotive

You could be mine

Coma

In my opinion, that as use your illusion, could have been the best selling cd of all time.

I think it could have altered gnr's status among all time rock bands. By that I mean, they'd probably be viewed as the "soft" hard rock band As these are mostly ballads. It would have been unreal to see the sales on it, could have given music a whole new idenity in the early 90s. Its all an opinion and preference, but fun to speculate.

I don't like that thread because they are all 14 songs (no more, no less). It's length that matters though

Go in that thread and use whatever amount of songs you'd like. If anyone gives you trouble, send 'em my way. I'll take care of it ;)

I've never understood or liked the scenario of taking 30 songs and making one 14 song album. Too much good material get scrapped.

I always envisioned a Use Your Illusion I being releases in early 91 with the following track listing:

Right Next Door To Hell

Double Talkin Jive

Pretty Tied Up

Perfect Crime

YCBM

Civil War

Don't Damn Me

Yesterdays

Don't Cry (Original)

KOHD

Loco

Coma

This way you make a more logical transition from AFD, putting most of the AFD ear material on this disc, keeping the hard rocking, aggressive edge. Starts with quick hard bursts and ends with the heavy epic combo of Locomotive and Coma. This shows the band has started the transformation, going into more sophisticated and longer material.

DC, YCBM, Yesterdays , CW could be the singles to promote the album.

Then in 93, UYI II drops. This one is heavier on Axl-ish epics, Continuing the transition and showing a band exploring further and taking chances with the direction of the music.

This is GNR's Led Zeppelin III

This album has a different character to the first one and attempts to be a more cohesive collection of songs:

14 years

LALD

The Garden

NR

DH

DC(Alt)

Breakdown

So Fine

Estranged

Obviously NR and Estranged are the centerpieces. LALD and DH also releases as singles.

There you have, IMO maybe the strongest set of Albums out of the gate from any rock band in history. Led Zep I-IV being the notable exception , and some will make a case for the Beatles.

Christ, this again?

UYI was edited into a single CD. It was sold in Wal Mart.

But you know, we've moved past the limitations of a 74 minute audio disc. There's this incredible new invention called an MP3 player. You can play as many or as little songs as you like.

You are free of the shackles of the audio CD!! You can make your UYI playlist whatever the FUCK YOU WANT!!

Would never work, seeing as the best cuts are all 8-10 minutes in length.

But just for fun:

1. Civil War

2. Right Next Door To Hell

3. Breakdown

4. Don't Cry

5. Locomotive

6. Live & Let Die

7. The Garden

8. November Rain

9. You Could Be Mine

10. 14 Years

11. Don't Damn Me

12. Dead Horse

13. Estranged

14. Coma

It's crazy to say there's too much guns music, but this album(s) i always thought would have been regarded much greater if it had been only 1 album. I personally LOVE most songs , but like every track on both albums. BUT if i could just have made it one album:

1-Civil War

2-Dust N' Bones

3-14 Years

4-Yesterdays

5-Don't Cry(original version)

6-November Rain

7-Estranged

8-Perfect Crime

9-Bad Obsession

10-Double Talkin' Jive

11-You Could Be Mine

12-Locomotive

13-Dead Horse

14-Coma

Your typical A side B side album with two different feels

This topic has been done a lot, and every time I attempt to condense the double album into one, I find that I simply can't.

And Axl being how he is, we should all be thankful they unloaded the vault at the time and gave us everything, warts and all. Otherwise, half the songs never would have seen the light of day. Song titles like "Locomotive" would be the stuff of legend, particularly with members of the classic lineup on them, right up there with stuff like "The General" and "Soul Monster."

For the record (pun intended), I like UYI2 better myself, because it has "Civil War," "Estranged," "Locomotive," "Breakdown" and "You Could Be Mine." "Shotgun Blues" and especially "My World" are the only duds.

1- Civil War

2- You Could Be Mine

3- Yesterdays

5- Estranged

6- Live And Let Die

7- Double Talkin' Jive

8- Pretty Tied Up

9- Locomotive

10- Knockin' On Heaven's Door

11- Dead Horse

12- Don't Cry

13- November Rain

14- Coma

That would be better than AFD and CD.
