Editing UYI into one album: Share your track listing

No doubt this has been discussed before but I'm doing it again. If it needs to be merged with an old thread that nobody cares about anymore that's fine.

Ok so releasing UYI 1 & 2 at the same time was pretty awesome and there's tons of great stuff on them. Thank god they did it that way in retrospect otherwise think of all the songs we never would have heard. Having said that I don't feel either album on it's own is as good as AFD. However if you were to take the best off each album I think you very well could have an album that not only meets AFD but surpasses it. In a way I think had the Illusions been one album GnR's legacy would be even greater than it is now cause they'd have 2 albums that could legitimately make a claim to greatest rock album ever. AFD is definitely in that conversation not only within the fan base but within world of rock music fans. It's probably the front runner to be honest. You can't say the same for either Illusion album. They just don't get the same general praise outside the fan base.

So if you were to cherry pick the best from the Illusions what would your album look like. A few rules though: It has to come in under 80 minutes long because we have to keep it realistic and you have to put the songs in the order you'd like them to appear. Yes some of your favourites might have to be left off due to time restraints. Life isn't fair. Blame everyone except Axl.

USE YOUR ILLUSION

1. Perfect Crime

2. Don't Damn Me

3. Live and Let Die

4. Don't Cry (Alt.)

5. Yesterdays

6. Dead Horse

7. The Garden

8. Civil War

9. November Rain

10. Breakdown

11. Locomotive

12. You Could Be Mine

13. Estranged

what an original topic.

No shit. Pretty sure I expressed that in the original post but by all means be a pretentious, bitter prick and complain about it. When you're done doing that go start an original topic that has NEVER been discussed on a GnR board. When you come up with one that is original AND interesting we'll all comment about how awesome you are and if it wasn't for your originality this board would've died years ago

This one is always tough.

You Could Be Mine

Dust N Bones

Don't Cry

November Rain

Live N Let Die

Civil War

Pretty Tied Up

14 Years

Yesterdays

Heavens Door

Estranged

Breakdown

I wanted one of the covers on mine and had a tough time between LALD and KOHD but I wanted more rockers so KOHD got cut. Was also a pretty tough choice between 14 Years and Yesterdays. Hardest cut to make was Coma but as awesome as it is it just east up too much time.

There was this invention called an MP3. And thanks to this magical little computer file, you are no longer a slave to the limitations of a 74 minute compact disc.

You could have ALL THIRTY UYI tracks on a single playlist.

Holy cuntfucking shit, doesn't that just blow your mind??????

So instead of making a tough choice like cutting out Coma (so sorry for your loss, I know you lost a lot of sleep over that one) now you can enjoy every single studio recording by Guns N Roses in a single sitting without ever having to get up and change discs. It's pretty neat, this new technology.

This has gotten harder over the years as I've grown to love the whole album equally. It used to be a no-brainer to me, and I still think its relatively easy, but I know also think with my tracklisting you miss a lot of amazing stuff.

1. Right Next Door To Hell

2. Dust N' Bones

3. Don't Cry

4. Perfect Crime

5. Bad Obsession

6. November Rain

7. Dead Horse

8. Civil War

9. 14 Years

10. Yesterdays

11. Knockin' On Heaven's Door

12. Breakdown

13. Estranged

14. You Could Be Mine

Total Time: 1 hour, 16 minutes, and 53 seconds

Kills me to leave off stuff like Locomotive, Coma, Don't Damn Me, Back Off Bitch, but time constraints kick in and these are the ones I feel absolutely needed to be released. Funny that I have no problem keeping Live And Let Die off, yet I do think their cover of Knockin' On Heaven's Door is great enough that it trumps some other stuff.

You small minded piece of..... well you know.. Guess your brain has rotted thanks to an overabundance of single disc UYI topics over the years. Oh fuck I'm so sorry for ruining your weekend. Sad that you can't even begin to comprehend the actual point of this thread despite bitching tat it's been done too many times. You'd think by now you'd get the point. No fucking shit there's a new technology that allows ME to put all 30 songs on one playlist but what your feeble little mind fails to realize is that no artist releases 30 songs as one album. How about that? And for anyone else who is too high and mighty to get why this topic gets brought up a lot it's because this is a massive GnR forum and there's new members all the time. In fact someone already contributed to this thread who only has 21 posts. Then sometimes there's people like myself who haven't really posted here in years, who in the wee hours of the night thought it would be fun to revisit an old topic and see what others thought. So instead of getting all bent out of shape like a miserable human being how about you participate like a normal person or just fuck right off if the thread annoys you.

hm? Oh sorry.

Was just a little distracted.

I was so distraught over the fact that my ULTIMATE KICKASS UYI playlist didn't fit onto a single CD-R that I snapped the goddamn thing and cut myself with the jagged shards of broken CD.

I think I might be bleeding out here. And as I die, so does my dream of having all the best songs from UYI I and II fitting neatly onto one 74 minute compact disc, in an order I arranged myself. I guess some things will just always be out of the reach of mortal men.

But "DON'T CRY (Alt Lyrics)" for me....I died the way I lived....on the fucking edge. I just flew a little too close to the sun.

Shit, I hate doing these.

Right Next Door To Hell
Perfect Crime
Back Off Bitch
November Rain
The Garden
Garden of Eden
Don't Damn Me
Bad Apples
Coma
Yesterdays
14 Years
Breakdown
Pretty Tied Up
Locomotive
Estranged
YCBM

Funny that I have no problem keeping Live And Let Die off, yet I do think their cover of Knockin' On Heaven's Door is great enough that it trumps some other stuff.

KOHD imo is a better cover than LALD. They put heart into KOHD whereas LALD seemed to be a "Look how long Axl can scream" both live and in the studio, and live it was a "Look how fast Slash and Axl can run across the stage"

Agreed. I think their cover is one of the best covers of a Dylan song theirs been, and I won't say one of the best covers of all time, but IMO its really really good. The best covers are the ones they make their own, and thats actually what GNR did. I don't think you can have UYI without that song on there, while Live And Let Die would maybe be the first song I get rid of.

my thinking was each side has a cover and an Izzy tune, an Axl epic. The rest are singles. Pretty Tied Up is a good rocker to open up side 2. Breakdown is the indulgence, I like it more than Coma and it's a great way to end the album with GNR burning across the desert in a dodge challenger.

I just made a "Best of" disk for my car - 78 minutes

Nice Boys (Lies)

Don't Cry (UYI1)

OMG (EOD)

RQ (LIve Era)

TWAT (CD)

Anything Goes (Lies)

OIAM (Lies)

Think About You (AFD)

Double Talkin' Jive (UYI1)

Locomotive (UYI2)

Estranged (Live Era)

Coma (UYI1)

Going Down (Unreleased)

I hit burn before I could adjust the order but I think it is a pretty solid disk!
