Gunns Exclusive #2 - Gunns gets Axl Rose to talk about new music

Loves the notion that many around here still think the next album (if there is to even be one) will be called Chinese Democracy II. That ship has sailed. The title might have worked had the album been released soon after (within a year) of CD, and CD had been a bigger financial success.

But why taint a new group of songs with the stank of that title? It comes with so much baggage and scorn by most people outside hardcore faithful that it would literally make no sense to call the next album CD II.

Call me cynical, but I don't see GNR/Axl fans getting new music until Axl dies. It seems like Axl's come to terms with this band being nothing more than a retirement fund. That's fine and all, but I'm not expecting anything more from this band artistically considering the way they're going about their business these days. The notion of GNR being a band, or what a real "band" is perceived by most people today, died back in 1993. While I think Axl had ambitions to revive that standard for GNR for a long time, I think those motivations have fallen by the way side. Would love to be proven wrong on this, but other than contradictory statements by band members and past instances of failure to deliver do not leave me with any other conclusion.

My apologies if this post has soured people's day. But in my 24 years of being a fan of this band, it's just easier to expect the least and by happy when something comes to fruition.

it wouldn't be a smart move to name it cd2 for sure.

but give up the details of this story when you said

"I will say this though, one of my interactions with Axl will blow any diehard GNR fan's mind (and I'm sure many will accuse me of lying, but don't really care 'cause I know it happened)."

i'm still curious

Double album by the end of the year. One of CD era material and one of new stuff.

Source? My ass.

Truth Value? Same as Axl's word.

They could do a killer box set.

Old CD songs.

Songs written by current band.

Covers album

Remix album/Acoustic

A couple of the live concert DVDs they have been promising.

A dvd documentary/behind the scenes style stuff

Axl's book

I'd pay $100 for that in a heartbeat

Honestly, I'd probably pay $500 or something for all that.

I'd gladly pay $100 right now to have an unheard song.

I'm not sure when people refer to the next album as CD2 that's really what they mean. I've called it that a few times but I don't think for a minute that is what it would be called, nor would I want them to call it that. It's just an easy way of being clear what music/album you are talking about.

I don's see why they shouldnt name it CDII,

I can see the advertising already: GUNS AND ROSES, PART II OF CHINESE DEMOCRACY "STORY" (this name still has alot of myticque around it, people will wonder if part2 might live up to expectations that part 1 might not have) don't forget CHINESE DEMOCRACY is as big as the name GUNS N ROSES

The tour the world for another solid 2 years and make the Self titled album with the current line up.

Well, you only have to wait a little less than two years (Jan 2015). I made a promise (more to myself than anything) to withhold the details of that night for five years out of respect for the people I met that night. There's nothing damning to those involved, but since everyone was so awesome that night I felt it only appropriate not to go running to an Internet forum and blabbing about it.

I arbitrarily picked five years as a suitable amount of time to pass for my story to not be considered self-aggrandizing or disrespectful. I recall someone else a few years ago reported an encounter with Axl from the Vegas 2001 concert (believe it was a blackjack dealer or someone who worked in the casino). He/she had decided to hold off from telling his/her story for a certain period of time out of respect for Axl being so cool. I think it's a class move and I'm trying to follow in those footsteps.

But don't worry, I have all 1500 words of my account typed and ready to go. I'm looking forward to sharing it as it's always fun to listen to such accounts (and perhaps it's mean to say this now, but I haven't read any accounts so far that come as close to the awesomeness that was that night). There's no news on new music (though it does contain an interesting dynamic concerning DJ and Axl). All my friends consider it my "Almost Famous" moment, if you've ever seen the movie. I'm sure it can't compete with the stories that Jarmo could tell (though I did get one-up on Jarmo that night :) ), but hopefully you'll all still be here (or I'm alive) by January, 2015 to hear it.

Oh yeah, I was there too haha. I guess that makes me the 3rd person? It's definitely what Axl said. It's a bit exciting to hear that he's still thinking about releasing music!

Is the pic in your avatar from the time he spoke about Silkworms??

it's exciting. but will axl release new music in 2013?
No.

If Silkworms gets released I think I'm gonna have to try E before I listen to it.

What if it leaks?

Silkworms is going to leak on the internet?

Going to leak? I thought it has been performed few times already many yrs ago? Just that it was never released officially yet.

No some one just proposed that if it did leak would I still try E before I listened to it. And I said yes because of the reviews of the demo. They say guitars are heavier, its wierd and it sounds like Axl is on a space ship.
