Rollingstone magazines list of the best debut albums of all-time

Appetite for Destruction was listed at #4. Licensed to Ill by the Beastie Boys was #1 and the Ramones was #2. Does anyone here believe the Beastie Boys deserve that. I was surprised to see that selected. These lists are usually not worth investing any emotion in , but I just felt different since GNR was related.

Appetite should, without question, be #1 (and isn't it not just the best selling debut of the 80's but the best selling debut EVER in the US?). On another note, I'm not a Beastie Boys fan and am not disrespecting their fan base or the band/group's talent, but a #1 placement on that list seems to somewhat be paying homage to Adam Yauch's untimely passing.

To me, the best debut albums are Led Zeppelin I, The Doors self titled, Van Halen I, Appetite For Destruction, Are You Experienced, Straight Outta Compton, Ten, Doggystyle and Definitely Maybe.

Rolling Stone's lists are hilarious. They have the first Strokes album ahead of Led Zeppelin 1 and The Doors. And no Van Halen!

You need a question mark after the word that.

It's a leftist magazine promoting its agenda, what do you expect? GNR has a tinge of midwest and 1980s. They associate that with white, conservative values. GNR was WAY bigger than BB or Ramones ever, ever were. Interesting they didnt include 50 Cent "Get Rich or Die Trying." They're trying to promote something similar to whatever they think BB represents. Which is nihilism turning and saying "Oh woops, sorry. Free Tibet."

LOL wtf is this shit?

"A conspiracy, I tell you!"

RS put BB above countless others for no self-evident reason, therefore it's not outrageous to suspect its for political, social reasons; things other than the music itself. And if you cant read RS and tell that they're left-leaning, I'm sorry but you're mentally paralyzed.

Here's wikipedia's first paragraph on Rolling Stone magazine: "Rolling Stone is an American magazine published every two weeks and focused on music, liberal politics, and popular culture. In 1967, Rolling Stone was founded in San Francisco, California, by Jann Wenner – who is still the magazine's chief editor – and music critic, Ralph J. Gleason."

I wasnt making any outrageous claims, rusty. It's just that you, like so many others, are blinded to how dominant a particular, arbitrary discourse is. Way to be open-minded and non-judgmental, though!

Oh and here's part of the second paragraph: "In the 1990s, the magazine changed its format to appeal to a younger readership interested in youth-oriented television shows, film actors, and popular music. This led to criticism that the magazine was emphasizing style over substance.[2] The magazine is now known for its strong liberal bent, and less-than-reliable reviews among music fans."

So, it sounds reasonable to you that the placement GNR in an opinion list of debut albums was dictated by politics? Are you totally ignoring that AFD has no "midwest politics?"

Can't it be that they just aren't huge GNR fans? As crazy as that sounds, it's possible.

Do you know that one of the most obvious signs of insanity is when you can find any situation and twist it to fit your paranoid conclusions? Delusional.

While Rolling Stone generally leans to the left (hey, it is their audience), I highly doubt they considered where two-fifths of the band originated from. Far more likely they're merely attempting to appeal to the hipsters.

But hey, if you're a fan of being paranoid, have at it. Whatever fits your world view.

Van Halen's at 27.
