Am I the only one who doesn't dislike Dizzy?

I personally love his contributions to the UYI albums and on the tour and I do love his use of keyboards on other songs live...I've never really understand why the guy's so disliked by many. His organ, piano and keyboard sounds don't really overtake any UYI songs. The only thing that harms those songs is Axl's special effects/weird noises and the mixing...I really don't think most people would dislike Dizzy that much if he'd sided with Slash or if he just was doing his own thing like Gilby is. I think some of people's dislike of him comes from the fact that he stayed for nuGuns...

I love his work too, and enjoy seeing him live. I think a lot of people dislike him because he always agrees with Axl. Favorite part of Estranged, Dizzy' solo! He plays with passion and looks like he is always enjoys jamming.

No I dislike him because he is pointless in the studio with Axl around, he didn't even play on anything close to a majority of songs on UYI or TSI yet for some reason was a credited as a member (i personally only consider him a real member of nu Guns, not original Guns) and most of the time he is putting his piano and shit where it doesn't belong (Nightrain etc), simply playing in a touring musician capacity (Estranged) or his superfluous nature reveals itself by him playing percussion or something completely unnecessary on sings because he has nothing else of value to contribute.

Oh and he thinks this is the best version of Guns hes been in. Christ could you imagine Steven's face when they hired this hack just before they fired him?

Yeah but's hes playing as a touring musician. It's Axl's piano on record.

I really dislike him. He is the very definition of a leech. The way he cowardly refused to attend the HOF, mere hours after Rose's letter, proves this. For god's sake Reed. Have some spine and choose to go if you want to. Also during the Illusion period Dizzy always looked like he was having a dump - like he was permantly constipated.

I don't dislike him. I think there's a sort of jealousy at play; people think he is "wasting" a spot in the band and think about how much more they/their favorite musician would contribute if they took Dizzy's place.

I don't dislike Dizzy, I also think he isn't a virtuoso, he's ok at playing Guns songs but I've always considered Axl to be the one who writes the songs on piano. As far as performance goes, he is good on songs like Street of Dreams, This is Love, ... but I could do without the piano solo live.

He's a cool guy and when I met him he hung out with me for a good 20 minutes in 2004 talking all about CD. I just don't think he has the band leading credibility to conduct interviews. In terms of as a regular person he's cool, but in terms of a source of GNR info he isn't very in the know until he's told. He's got the greatest gig in the world, good for him.

So many songs in that list that didn't need piano..

I'm indifferent towards him, however i think he's good for Axl/current GN'R. He probably helps Axl feel like this band is a continuation of the old line up and acts some what like a old war buddy that is still around.

As for his use in the band, well, i hardly ever fucking know hes there on the albums and it's only when i see them live that i pay attention to him, even then he's just up there shaking his little shakers but whatever.

"What's with the piano?" Matt Sorum

I think I understand now..

I've always been a fan of the Killer so I never really minded. I love the piano behind Civil war and Nightrain. Organ is totally necessary on SCOM though. Also I love Queen and even their newer vocal replacement opens with one with Bad Company.

Used in the right way Pianos can totally be R N R

I agree, but imo songs like:

Dust n Bones

Bad Obsession

Don't Damn Me

Bad Apples

Civil War

Yesterdays

Get In the Ring

Pretty Tied Up

and Locomotive

Most songs don't even need a keyboard player... and Axl played piano on November Rain and Estranged... Dizzy is pretty much useless..

I think Axl was just trying to keep Dizzy Busy when they played live LOL. He musta been like 'Fuck, I don't want Dizzy to have to play the bongos on that song too... Hey Dizzy go write some Piano for these songs as well'

I don't dislike Dizzy. He isn't needed in the studio so much but I don't have a problem with him being there live. I do agree that the piano he adds to certain songs isn't really required but I don't find anything he does takes away from the songs.

I think Axl is loyal to people unless they fuck him over then your gone. The thing is that's cool, admirable even but with Dizzy, he's just not needed.

Axl doesn't owe the guy a living, I've got nothing against the guy either but just musically it's ridiculous how unnecessary he is to the band and how the music sounds.

He's the luckiest session musician in history imo, he got taken in by Axl for the illusions and I don't think he contributed all that much then. But that's cool, pay the guy for what he did, take him on your even if that was part of axls vision, but then shake the dudes hand, say thank you very much and goodby. Fuck, take hookers and blow out as a support act if hes struggling to pay his bills, whatever.

The fact that he's still around now doing interviews and wiggling his maracas on stage as a full proper member of guns n roses is fucking bananas to me, because plenty of guys who WERE important have fucked off.
