James Bond
She gets points for having a song about hearing November Rain on the radio. Pun intended.

Carne_asaDA
Poor mans Tori Amos.I don't see that. She's coming from a completely different place than Tori Amos.
Towelie
^ Nah, I quite like her really, especially Soviet Kitsch. But she's no Tori. That woman is a genius and probably the best songwriter of the last 20 years.

dalsh327
Patti Smith and Bonnie Raitt are pretty dynamic live, for different reasons. Ani DiFranco with a band or solo is really good. I like Amanda Palmer, always liked Tori and Kate but other than influence, Tori's done her own thing and has this retro sound that I can't put my finger on, where Kate's kind of a few steps ahead of everyone. Joni's a performer of the 70s, she took way more chances - once she started doing the synths the same way Leonard Cohen did in the 80s, kind of diminished the songs a bit. Then you go through Laura Nyro's back catalog and hear how many people were influenced by her. Tina Turner is still one of the best female vocalists ever, so's Aretha. Ronnie Spector can still sing great, so can Darlene Love. One you never hear of is Bonnie Bramlett. Cyndi Lauper never really got props for her singing, but anyone who's ever seen her live forgets how damn good she is because they're so used to the hit songs on the radio. Little woman with a big voice.
