Vincent Vega
What are Classic rock bands that went the synth pop/new wave/electronic/Disco route in the '70s/80s?

wasted
Stones. U2 went dance. Thats what happened in the 90s. Rocks got remixed by dance acts. Or like Radiohead went electronica.

Guest Len B'stard
A lot of the artists mentioned here didn't just like "go the synth pop way", they are electic artist that have made a career of switchin' up their styles constantly, just thought i'd make that distinction The Clash dipped their toe in Disco. And rock and blues and funk and reggae...all in the same album
wasted
U2 kind of blended dance n industrial pretty well on Achtung. Even Better than the Real Thing house remix was good. I dont think there was enough hip hop on CD.
Guest Len B'stard
U2 blended shite with more shite and ended up being...SUPER shite! wasted
AcDc are impervious to new wave. Not much of a U2 fan, bono is a knobhead but the edge is decent. The thing is u2 did their changes so consciously. Like had band meetings about it. Careering.
dalsh327
Genesis and Peter Gabriel. Roxy Music defined some of the new wave sound. The Buggles were an offshoot of Yes, some of Zappa's band in the early 80s became Missing Persons. Neil Young dabbled in synths in the early 80s but I wouldn't call it pop as much as it being more Devo/Gary Numan influenced. King Crimson weren't "new wave" but they became synth heavy. And there is a connection between Psychedelic Furs and Guns N Roses.... The Tubes also became part of the new wave. I guess Hall and Oates could be called a classic rock band, but Hall did one album with Robert Fripp and the 80s hits had some of the new wave sound to the songs.
