Vincent Vega
Which was the best rock band in the 1970s? Going ONLY by their '70s material. Edited April 21, 2013 by Vincent Vega
moreblack
where's Deep Purple, Queen and Heart in this poll? Edited April 21, 2013 by moreblack
jman2000
I don't think Heart was that big, nor do I think Deep Purple was, but Queen should definitely be in the poll. I voted for Aerosmith

Zint
I don't think Heart was that big, nor do I think Deep Purple was, but Queen should definitely be in the poll. I voted for Aerosmith Deep Purple were huge!Machine Head was a monster hit!
bran
none of those, even though all that are listed are great (except zz top)
Zint
In that poll, when you say Alice Cooper, do you mean the original band, or Alice solo?
Zint
The Stooges' Search and Destroy and/or Raw Power obliterates anything by Heart.Might want to adjust that poll to reflect that.

bacardimayne
AC/DC is a glaring omission, but I would've voted for the Who anyway.
headshrinker
Gotta be Zeppelin, no other bands output from 70's even comes close

Orsys
Tough to pick a favourite, but of that list, I listen to Deep Purple most now. Queen, Heart, some Rolling Stones.Child in Time is still my go to song - very loud, after a horrible, stress filled, depressing day. Works every time.BUT I think during the 70s Led Zeppelin was huge. classicrawker
The Stones are not even close to being hard rock...... more R&B then anything...you may want to change the title of your thread to remove "hard" and just say rock.......If your talking hard rock bands and basing only on their 70's albums I would have to vote for Led Zep but the Stones are my favorite band of all time and I would pick them for overall catalog. moreblack
Even in overall catalog, I'd still say Zeppelin. Much less duds.
classicrawker
JMO but I think the Stones catalog from 67-80 is just as strong as Led Zeps catalog 69-80 catalog. LZIII, Precense and ITTOD have their share of filler as do the Stones later 70's albums.......If you compare the Stones best to Led Zeps best albums they both created stellar music..........and I am a big fan of both bands
DirtyDeeds
Tie between Van Halen and The Who, but since The Who is the band that has an option, I choose them. Queen is very close, too.

dalsh327
On Led Zeppelin's label, Freddie Mercury's favorite singer.. have to include them as one of the great bands of the 70s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhpLvFjkEgY

Randy Lahey
It's gotta be Zeppelin. I love The Stones, but I don't consider them to be a hard rock band.
Johnny Drama
Zeppelin for me. Stones are hard rock the way people who don't know about them call Guns metal or glam.
