Neither of em really, they've pretty aged as appropriate with when they are. People look at Ozzy and think OMG what has the drugs done to him but quite frankly he weren't no fuckin' oil painting to begin with and he's like...reflective of what your average ale-enjoying Brummie factory fodder looks like in it's 60s  All aged pretty normally though really. Out of them lot at least.

Do note the 'Other' option though...

Oh yeah, sorry, there's an 'other' option, hmmmm, and they've got to be alive yeah? Thats a shame cuz a great example of being aged drastically by drugs was Keith Moon who went from like fresh faced boy in his late teens to a forty year old man looking person in the space of a decade, it was fuckin' drastic as fuck but he's dead so i guess that one don't count.

Hmmm, who else? Prince Naseem Hamed?

Whaat, it counts, he did that song didn't he, "Prince is in the house!" That was pretty much all of his contribution actually, "Prince is in the house!".

Oops, I forgot...

Scott Weiland?

Nah.

And drugs haven't done anything to Ozzy, Lenny. Hes got like Parkinsonian syndrome which had symptoms similar to Parkinsons except it's merely genetic.

And I'll say Layne Staley. I know you said no deaths, but before his death, the poor boy was on a downhill plummet since 96. Losing fingers, teeth, reclusive, deeper into drugs and towards the end in his words he was shitting himself literally.

Dylan wasn't exactly Pavarotti to begin with.

More like Caruso.

Dylan's voice changed, but someone who still draws fans even if he sounds like a mosquito these days, one of the fans' bigger frustrations from him was changing the arrangements of his songs live. The last time he properly did the songs was with Petty.

Steve Perry should be on the list. He can't sing the songs anymore, it's not that he can't sing, he can sing in tune, but at 63, there's still people hoping for a Journey reunion. Maybe at the Rock Hall.

He's been talking about putting new music for longer than Axl talking about Chinese Democracy out.

Not to worry, Motley Crue will be retiring..... until no doubt the big comeback 5 yrs later...

I was at the last Van Halen concert and they sounded good from where I was (about 40m from the stage) except the bass was a bit loud but they were great overall. NOt very adventurous with the setlist -- too many covers instead of deep cuts -- but solid. It was along day and Aerosmith were a hard act to follow, hence a lot of youtube haters with dodgy quality recordings. They are not in the middle of a tour so were a bit stiff I guess. Dave's voice suffers from the smokes but I'd rather hear Dave croak a bit than the Sammy Hagar screetch any day. I included the latter here because look at him now...Chickenfoot...

Dave's never had a great singing voice, he's even said so in the past. I think that kind of helps, the same way it helps Neil Young, David Byrne, or Leonard Cohen in not being technically gifted singers to begin with. Granted, he's had to tune down a bit, but he'll still do the yells and put on a good show as a frontman.

I think anyone who heard DLR Band with John 5, or saw any of the solo shows was used to his voice. Underrated album, the Van Halen album that should've been. He made more money from it than Van Halen did off of III because it was self-released.

What surprised me was how he sang on Me Wise Magic - it's not my favorite song, but you could tell they wrote it for Hagar and he ran with it. Weirdest album was "Diamond Dave" - Chemical Brothers and Steve Miller covers, and that No Hold BBQ video was very WTF.

James Hetfield is unlistenable now, but mostly in part because he hasn't been trying for years. Can't even listen to live Metallica without cringing from his singing.

definitely, he murders everything he sings now.

i voted for ozzy, if his voice isnt compressed and robotic it is tired and weak as well as being way out of tune.

But Dave still brings the pizzazz... it was awesome to see 'em - first time VH with Dave in Australia would you believe... I'm still catching up on all that solo stuff and would like to get a copy of his autobiography 'Crazy From The Heat', I hear it's an awesome read.
