Vincent Vega
Enough fucking threads Miser. It's a thread discussing two of the landmark albums of the '70s by arguably the two most popular acts of that decade. What's wrong with the thread? The fact that I made it? Ignore the author and just enjoy the thread itself.
luciusfunk
Because I'm pretty sure we've had this exact topic. And I'm pretty sure you made the thread.

Jumpin' Jack Flash
Kashmir, Trampled Underfoot, The Rover, In My Time of Dying, In The Light, Ten Years Gone, Sick Again, Houses of the Holy, The Wanton Song, Hell of an album.Exile is a great listen too, bloody masterpiece on some days, but not as many class tracks.Off the top of my head again, Soul Survivor, Ventilator Blues, Rocks Off, Shine A Light, Let it Loose, Torn and Frayed and maybe Rip This Joint if I am in the mood....So yeah, went with Physical Graffiti. Iron MikeyJ
Imo physical graffiti might be the best album ever made. Its atleast in the discusion along with zep 2, zep 4, sgt pepper, dark side of the moon, the wall, and a few others. Ill throw appetite in there also

Yeah, pretty much this. PG is far more consistent, Exile wanders off in some odd directions, that... honestly, I've never been able to fully connect with. There's absolute magnificence no doubt, but not completely. DieselDaisy
PG is a piece of crap, just awful - I can write a better album in five minutes. Exile is the most profound, most soulfull, most bluesy, most rock n' roll album in the history of man. It is a complete masterpiece. Genius. Not a week goes by when I do not listen to Exile (and I never fail to discover new things about the record).

Kashmir, trampled underfoot, in the light, and ten years gone alone make it a must have for any rock collection. You must hate the illusion albums, because no way in hell are they better than physical graffiti.

DieselDaisy
In actual fact there is a legit point here. Exile produced next-to-no hit singles/concert regulars sans Tumbling Dice (and even that is not exactly Satisfaction or Brown Sugar). This was a rarity for the Stones at that time and is still the reason why Jagger doesn't like Exile as much other records. But that is part of the genius of the album. It is perhaps the greatest 'deep cut' albums ever. Exile sounds like some archaic American song collection which has been found on a beat up old cassette. When you initially listen, you find many of the songs forgetable and similar (the likes of Rip this Joint and Casino Boogie) and the production, crude (Sweet Black Angel). But then you listen further and the genius of the album begins to unravel, the subtle shifts in rhythm, the little swing riffs (not big 'obvious' Zep monstrosities). The obscured vocals begin to emerge also: Jagger never produced a more heartfelt political plea than that song, Sweet Black Angel. It was the last time Jagger was ever remotely, counter-culture. Which is also not a patch on PG. I love AFD, and the Illusions and Exile is downright decent, but PG is one of those albums where everything goes right. That one gets played front to back, no skips. The other ones mentioned aren't so fortunate. Edited April 30, 2013 by moreblack
Iron MikeyJ
Agreed. As far as double albums go, the wall is the only one that "might" be better. I can't really think of another double album that's better. I love the illusions but they are not as good as pg or the wall. I would compare appetite to zeppelin 2 and 4.
