sweetness
Kind of an umbrella term, also known as "skramz", which I think I hate more than "screamo", but it has to be some of the most sincere and inspired music I've ever heard. Dissonant guitars, honest lyrics and abrasive vocals, really articulate drums, I think it's one of the coolest takes on the traditional guitar/bass/drum/vocal rock band but I don't see it discussed here ever and probably because it's such a niche genre, just figured I'd see if anyone else here is or ever was into this shit. Bands like Pg.99, Circle Takes The Square, Envy, The Blood Brothers, City of Caterpillar, Fear Before the March of Flames, or Comadre? LightningBolt
I've tried getting into it in the past, but I just couldn't. I typically really liked the calmer sections, but most of the times the harsher sections just sounded... chaotic for the sake of sounding chaotic. Guess it isn't for me. Zint
Isn't this the stuff you post in the punk threads?
Gordon Comstock
I had a friend in middle school that kinda tried to get me into a few screamo bands.... Didn't like them.I don't know if they get lumped into the screamo category, but I saw Suicide Silence open for In Flames on the Mayhem Fest 2 years ago. I don't really like them, but they were pretty sweet live. The crowd was awesome too.
sweetness
Isn't this the stuff you post in the punk threads?Yeah kinda. There's similar stuff that's way more influenced by hardcore punk, but at the time these bands started forming in the early 90's that's what they considered themselves. The "screamo" term didn't come until later, and is widely used to describe this kind of music but it's also rejected by most of the artists, they just see themselves as another form of punk. The genre definitions and shit are pretty vague, yet annoyingly specific at the same time. That's why it's more acceptable for those in the scene to just all it punk Edited May 30, 2013 by sweetness

ColdHeartBreaker
it has to be some of the most sincere and inspired music I've ever heard. I've always thought the opposite; a forced, whiny, look-at-me thing. It all kicked off with the emo craze a few years ago. Not to mention, screaming rarely sounds good? Dude, I'm not talking about Asking Alexandria, Bring Me The Horizon, Devil Wears Prada metalcore shit, this thread is about screamo/post hardcore music from the early 90's to the early 2000's. It wasn't even close to being a "look-at-me thing", it was a really cool group of talented bands that was doing something really different for their time, they did it for themselves and it caught on, it wasn't for attention. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ng94UTrEjnY Edited May 31, 2013 by sweetness
