What is guitar "noodling" exactly?

What Sweetness said, superfluous soloing for its own/showing offs sake that doesn't particularly serve the purpose of the piece in question.

To me it's soloing without a sense of direction. Like it doesn't have a clear order or a beginning, middle, and an end.

The notes don't really connect well enough to form a cohesive bigger idea that serves the purpose of the song as a whole.

Basically Bumble's 14 years solos. :tongue2:

^^ And lets be honest here, that is something pretty much every advanced/great/virtuosic guitar player does. Whether it's Slash on a solo like Slither, BH on a song like Nottingham Lace, BBF on Riad solo... They're all guilty of it to some degree. Playing what seems like a gazillion notes a second to show off their speed and prowess on the instrument.

One of the only lead rock guitarists I can think of who doesn't do this is DJ Ashba and that's probably only because he isn't good enough to do it.
