Because, really, you can get guys from the "Illusion" thing, but the only thing that would make it would be Duff and Slash, really. It’s nothing against Izzy and it’s nothing against Steven, or anything like that. Steven may want it, but these guys I’m working with right now, they work really hard and it’s hard work. I’ve toured with the other guys and I’ve also seen what they’ve done since, and I just know the difficulties.

I don’t have an excitement to work with people that joined in the "Illusion" time. There’s behind the scenes that was really, really difficult there with different ones. So it’s not really even a full reunion. And these guys have been here a long time, whether the public knows it or not because we haven’t done the media like that. Tommy’s been on 14 years, Richard’s going on 11. That’s as long as Duff was in the band. Chris has been in going on 11, Dizzy’s on since "Illusion," Frank’s going on six, and so’s Bumble. These guys have been here. And DJ’s going on three.

Plus, we can have our differences, and everybody in the band can be like, ‘I don’t understand that guy’ and point at one of us, you know? But at the same time, we get along. I don’t have to tell these guys what to do onstage. I can suggest something at times, but that’s very little.

In the provided interview, Axl says that the only two persons from the old line-ups that could enhance GNR as we know it would be Slash and Duff. So with that in mind, if it were the necessary solution and final compromise to reunion hopes, would you accept the following GNR line-up?

Axl Rose

Slash

Duff McKagan

Dizzy Reed

Richard Fortus

Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal

Frank Ferrer

Chris Pitman

What do we need Bumblefoot for (although I have no real problem with him), Richard is good enough. And I am not really happy with Frank as well. Steven I like more, but since he has problems, another drummer is probably needed. But Frank I wouldn't chose.

So my choice, would be other.

Slash's ego would never allow him to share the stage with another lead guitarist in GNR, particularly one who is leaps and bounds more technically gifted than himself.

BBF has the gift of making guitars sound like awful 80s 8-bit video game music.

Ditch out Ron and Pitman and i'm good with the scenario
(may add Izzy on the list)

and this is also a valid reason. This was a problem in the old days too...

Stradlin is more important if a reunited band decided to make new music. Slash was unable to write a 'great' Guns N' Roses album (first Snakepit). Axl was unable to write a 'great' Guns N' Roses album (Chinese Democracy). What do they both have in common? No Izzy.

To the general public a reunion would just need Axl and Slash. That's who the casual fan and general public see Guns N' Roses as being. So the band could have any number of combinations, as long as it has Slash and Axl together.

I don't get where people think if it were just Axl and Slash that it would be a success. Or whatever. If it were the Appetite/UYIs guys, there would be fans coming out of the woodwork to see GNR. Cause there's a lot of fans that have moved on,cause its just Axl. I don't think it would be as popular if it were just Axl n Slash and whoever else.

It would have to at least be the UYI era band for it to be a huge hit.

Also, they could not legitimately call it a ‘reunion’ if it was just Axl, Slash and a bunch of guys from Nugnr. The media I do not believe would regard it as a ‘reunion’: at best, they may regard it as a ‘semi-reunion’ like Van Halen with Wolfgang - and people still bring up Michael Anthony all the time! Tickets would still sell but there would always be a bit of negativity about the thing just as there is with VH.

For it to be a valid ‘reunion’ it has to have at least one more original member to just about carry it: Axl, Slash and Duff or Axl, Slash and Izzy would do it. Even Axl, Slash, Gilby and Sorum might just about get away with it (acting on the principal that two replacements, but replacements who were certainly in the ’old’ era, equate one Appetite member). Ideally though a reunion would be the Appetite line-up, or at least Axl, Slash, Duff and Izzy: the four songwriters of the Appetite era.
