Is this the worst time ever to be a GnR fan?

Damn, nothing is happening with this band at the moment!

After the HOF all hopes of a reunion seems to be gone and we are still waiting for anything exciting to happen with the current band. Meanwhile, Axl's voice is getting worse, he is out of shape and there are still no new album. Not even a few new songs.

Is this how it will continue to be? Its boring! If nothing new happens the litte relevance still left in the band will be gone pretty soon.

A new album is what really could give new life to this band

The just played a show a week ago. No band tours or is publicly active every day of the year. Every band has some down time, at least publicly. They are playing next month and may have plans for later in the year.

I can't say I have been more bored with the band. I went to both Melbourne shows earlier this year and that did little to reignite anything for this band. Hell even the silent era in 2007-2008 before Chidem actually came out was better than this. Now it's like "I wonder which country they are going to tour for the 3rd time now?". Meh.

2003-2005

At least we still had an album to look forward too. This is most def the worst time for gnr fans. At least before we had sum exciting, non predictable members in the band. Dj is so rehearsed they could replace him with a hologram.

No.

It's one of the best times since the original lineup, and the release of Chinese Democracy. Our favourite band tours all the time, playing all over the world.

2003 - 2006 (not 2006 as a whole hut to that point) were the worst years as far as I am concerned. No shows, no album and no communication between band and fans.

WTF!? Where were some of you people before Chinese Democracy came out? There were many many years with no news at all. No touring...Nothing. How on earth is this a worse time than that? Besides, now we actually know that Axl's cabable of releasing music without the old band. There was a time when it was unsure if Chinese Democracy would ever come out. Now there's really no reason to think that CD2 wouldn't come out. Axl released an album wihtout the old band, why wouldn't he be able to do it again? Especially since he seems to be in a much better place mentally than he was before and we know he has some big guns in his vault just waiting to be released. Even medias view on GNR is MUCH better than before. This is most definitely not the worst time to be a GNR fan. Far from it.

Besides, it's not like we wouldn't have anything to look forward to. There's new shows coming up, there's the live DVD and then there's of course CD2. So I don't see what the big problem is. In 2003-05 all the bitching was a little bit more understandable.

If your just a fan of Guns n Roses then I understand the boredom because of no new music. But if your a fan of the individual members your asking for to much.

Ron is always playing shows, so is Fortus. Tommy is doing the Replacement show/shows. Dizzy is usually active. The others I'm not sure about.

There's more activity now amongst the band and band members then there was back in the Appetite/Illusion days.

I actually agree with you. I'd add the time between '95 - '99 as well. There was no Twitter, no Facebook, no shows, the band members were rarely seen or spoke, and Axl was no where to be found. There were literally less than a handful of actual photos of him that surfaced during those years. I remember threads of people even speculating if he was still alive, or at the very least had retired, and was there even a band anymore. The anticipation of an album wasn't a good thing either, because the longer the wait, the more people lost interest and gave up. Lots of false hope and unfounded rumors made it much worse than not having any idea if a possible album existed at all.

You took the words outta my mouth,

back then we had ZERO communication, ZERO shows and no album. Sure we assumed they were working on it but it was very dark and silent times.

2013 is WAY better than that ever was. They are active on twitter, facebook, playing shows, talking to fans. This is by far NOT the worst time to be a fan.

Tis the worst time. The silent/recluse years followed by some new and good live songs held unknown potential but I stayed hyped. Now it is more like... hope it doesn't get worse.

And despite a few positive reviews of rehashed live show I feel disheartened. boohoo for me.

In 2003-5 and 2007 you at least held onto the prospect that Axl, this eccentric genius, was silently tinkering away on a trilogy of masterpieces which would claim world domination. And maybe we all got carried away with that if I recall. 2008-13 we have seen that prospect shattered. Democracy was far from a masterpiece. And now Axl has turned into a nostalgia guy, with no intention of releasing another record.

Also, in a strange way, the 'silence' had its own drama. For instance, Merck's 'tuesdays' thing. Everyone was thinking, 'is this guy ever going to get this bloody record out?' The world awaited, excited by the mere morsal of news!! Now nobody cares as they saw that the record was not that good anyway and his voice is now shot.

Now there is no mystique or drama. Axl is just, comfortably doing his trade as a hits artist: Asia- S. America - Europe - N. America (repeat the cycle) - same setlist. There is nothing to talk about it.

People obviously don't remember the aborted tour at the end of 2002, made that much worse by the fact that they seemed to have finally hit their stride with a great performance at MSG.

Whatever happened, the plug getting pulled on that tour was really shocking and we didn't even know who was still in the band (or if the band still existed) for several years. This incident led to Buckethead's departure and from the tour cancellation until early 2006 there was no news, no communication (aside from the press release about the RIR performance getting canceled and Buckethead being out of the band), no real hints of the album being released, etc.
