Trent Reznor does not like Axl

I said this myself a while ago based on numerous things he's said over the years and a couple of people tried to tell me I was wrong.

Over the years, Fortus has been recruited play with everyone from hard-rock pioneers Thin Lizzy to German singer Nena to international popstar Rihanna. And a discussion about bands that unsuccessfully recruited him leads to a funny moment at Utopia, a lounge filled with high-hanging band posters. He ticks off names of some groups that hes turned down, Alice Cooper. Bowie. That was one that really hurt. Iggy Pop was another one that really hurt. Those are two gigs I would have liked. Nine Inch Nails is another; Trent (Reznor) even released for a second that I was joining, but he was doing that to stir up shit with Axl (Rose).

Clearly a personnel battle ensued when Axl first snatched Robin Finck in the late 90s.

What if Trent does like Axl and it was just his way of fucking with a friend?

That's the stupid idea I was referring to. How can you possibly confuse 'stirring shit' with friendly banter? Stealing somebody else's guitarist is not fun and games.

Remember when Trent hid pictures of Axl in studio photos he posted on NIN's website, kind of like "Where's Axl?"

That was weird

Some people would have you believe that was hearty banter.

Why do you think Axl, after speaking so fondly of Nine Inch Nails, became reluctant to talk about his favourite modern day bands?

they gotta be on the forum somewhere I just can't be bothered to go back and look, it was like 06/07ish

Yeah, he used Axl's 02 VMAs face, I think. I'm pretty sure there was one with Buckethead as well. That was amusing.

I can tell Trent would be the sort of guy who doesn't like Axl just based on his personality and where he came from. The music scene he rose out of in the late '80s/early '90s was kind of battling against the dominance of bands like GN'R on the airwaves. I don't want to say Trent is an elitist but he strikes me as someone who probably gets a kick out of left-of-center music; I can't really picture him jamming out to GN'R. And for someone as productive as he is, I'm sure the long gestation of ChiDem was kind of a joke (he basically built his entire career during the time it took Axl to release that album).

Back in 91 Trent didn't have a problem with gnr until they opened for them and got humiliated by the crowd reaction a few times.Didn't go well at all.I even remember reading something about Trent saying he has blocked these shows out of his mind. He's been butthurt ever since.

in the early 90s mocking Axl Kurt Cobain or Mike Patton-style was very popular and later on this tendency only increased. so even if Reznor did like Axl he would never admit it cause it would make him look uncool

Mike Patton was the one who mocked Nirvana and Gn'R. He's way more "elitist" than Reznor. If you think NIN is weird, just take a closer look at Mr Bungle. Patton would probably mock Reznor too if he got the chance.

To be fair to Axl, he was into weirder and experimental music before it really got more mainstream exposure (i.e. when anything that wasn't metal was considered "faggy") and took a risk by giving NIN that opportunity in front of a big crowd. Sadly it was so leftfield back then that the majority of people derided it, hence the crowd reactions.
