Guest NGOG
One might question the merit of such a tactical move, but do you think Axl recruited Dj Ashba hoping that he would appease the label's image concerns? It is unlikely that Axl was enthusiastic about Dj joining on the basis of enhancing his creative vision. I would say the mentality behind getting Dj was Look, here is somebody you can market. I'm happy to make this person the modern day image of GNR and give him a few solos, but ultimately you will allow me to pursue the direction I desire. Young_Gun
He was brought in to keep the live format going. Axl could raise Jimmy Hendrix from the dead and have him as a lead guitarist in GnR and the label wouldn't put out a record without most of the original lineup. Guest NGOG
But he's so fucking chummy with himI think that's largely because Dj is crucial to another Slashless GNR record happening. Not for artistic reasons, obviously. Think about it, who could they have marketed from the 'freak show'? All of those people were art driven.
wfuckinga
I tend to ignore Dj to be honest.

Hell, by the time Chinese Democracy came out, Buckethead had gotten pretty big off of the song "Jordan" in Guitar Hero. I was always surprised that was never banked on in any way. Apollo
Could be.Record labels care about making money. If Axl turned in an album that the label thought would sell millions and have a couple hits on it - they'd release it tomorrow.

Have either ever expressed enthusiasm for PR? Could you imagime either embarking on a sustained interview circuit?
Val22
Well, they are both from Indiana, so they must have some stuff in common.DJ is also lead guitarist for Sixx AM, so I'm surprised that Axl doesn't mind this. I mean back in the original GNR days, the band members were GNR and only GNR, I'm wondering if Axl is just using some of the best musicians as back up for now and just might replace all of them or some of them whenever Axl decides to do another world tour.BTW, Ashba just got engaged to a model/actress, lol. Yeah, okay. This guy has been with more women, so why does he think this is the one?Anyway, good luck. Hope they are happy. I think the ring could have been bigger!
