Coma16
Thanks man. I didn't think that argument held much water. I think the album needed a few music videos (yes, people still watch them) and radio play.Russ: I'm not American but doesn't Walmart have much more traffic than BestBuy? Mr. Dude
Wal-Mart's far more accesible, far more customers too. There are Wal-Marts everywhere. Best Buys are mostly around more urban/populated areas. Edited December 30, 2013 by Mr. Dude
classicrawker
and AC/DC can still sell out stadiums here in the US while NuGuns can't fill arenas so I would say it makes sense AC/DCcan sell 3x more cds then NuGuns here in the US..... I'm not sure what the store counts are on the 2 companies but there are a TON of Best Buys in the US. Sure there aren't as many as Wal-Mart but if someone were a fan of GN'R and wanted Chinese in the US, they would have been able to get it from Best Buy. If not in store, they could have ordered it online easily.
RichardNixon
Black Ice is a far more accessible (and lazy) album than Chinese Democracy. If GN'R released a meat-and-potatoes AFD rehash that was at the checkout counter of Walmart it would have sold 3 million copies too.
classicrawker
so in others words if Axl had made an album people actually wanted to listen to it would have sold more copies?...makes perfect sense......

Guest cbgnr666
If it was a Wal-mart Exclusive with the same Kind of promotion like say Black Ice it would have sold a load more copies at least initially.Black Ice isn't even that good, but it had Rock and Roll train and Walmart even selling it the underwear department. Rustycage
So many excuses. If people wanted the album, they would have it. Best Buy isn't a secret club.

CD would have sold more, but no one could get to Best Buy! I've heard this excuse a TON over the last 5 years. I absolutely LOVE Chinese Democracy, but I don't feel the need to make excuses for it. Especially not by acting like the reason it didn't do better was because it was only available at one of the most popular vendors in the US. Cosmo
I don't understand the need to justify CD's poor sales and public acceptance. People have bad taste, period. Especially in the US. Plus, if you like it, isn't that enough? No one knows Wolfmother is still going and that their new album leaked online, but it's AWESOME and I LOVED what I've heard so fuck it if people say they're a Sabbath wannabe band, I freakin' love them. magisme
Definitely go back to the people have bad taste defense. It's entirely rhetorical and unverifiable, so it works like a charm.

Well, when Miley Cirus, Justin Bieber and Pitbull top charts and good quality music is released completely unnoticed, there isn't much to argue about, is there? But maybe it's us who have bad taste and Pitbull's 80's pop song sample-o-rama is what good music is all about!

Milli Vanilli? MC Hammer?Basically your point is: If they don't buy GNR music, they have bad taste. If they do, they obviously have good taste. That's not very in depth. But in the end, as long as I have my shitty music to listen to, I'm fine... Do I wish I had more people to enjoy shitty music with? Yeah... But as long as there is a minimal audience that has the same taste as me and makes the existence of Guns N' Roses financially valid, it's ok. IF Guns N' Roses actually released new music, that is.
