Axl is the problem.Actually, funnily enough I agree but not for the same reason as what I presume is yours. I think Axl is difficult no doubt about it but I think the problem is that whatever issues he has have been exacerbated by Beta and her manipulation of him over the years, up to and including her ultimatum. I think what we are seeing is Axl sacrificing GNR for Beta. He would rather destroy his own band then see her walk. It is emotional blackmail. People think Axl is in charge but he isn't. Beta is, she pulls the strings. Pulls Axl's strings to do what? Did it ever occur to you that taking on these managers saves a huge truck full of cash. Managers can get up to 20% (agents 10%?). If Axl is smart, he hired people he trusts and gives them a massive salary and huge bonuses. It's kind of a "fuck you" to the old managers because --yes-- they can and did pull off many successful tours. Managing has gotten easier with the world shrunk through the internet. I think when people here bash Beta for what she does or doesn't do they are not realizing her function is manager not public relations. A P.R. person has media contacts and many clients. Sometimes a news outlet will put through a less desirable story to get an exclusive on another. One p.r. guy in NYC clients one-time ranged from McDonalds to the Pope. P.R. is mostly worth the money. Granted, Rod Smallpocket wouldn't be the worst thing to happen to Guns, but literally all of the problems I have with Maiden at this time stem to Rod (And believe it or not, I have a lot of problems with Maiden right now). He's been seriously cutting corners on every aspect of merchandise first of all; the Maiden England DVD didn't receive a Blu Ray release because "there wouldn't be enough demand for it to be cost effective", their price on concert tickets has nearly tripled in 5 years, and demand is only marginally higher than 5 years ago, and their merchandise has gone to shit - $45 for shirts which don't even retain their print through one wash (Not to mention the extreme laziness when it comes to the design of the merch items). They have a fan club which is a great community, but is only a shadow of what it was even 3 years ago because Rod starting cutting virtually every perk out of the equation. And the way they announce their tours is a joke: the European leg they just finished up took over 9 months to announce from the first gig announced to the last night announced, and it was only a 2 month tour. Not to mention multiple shows were explicitly announced as either the tour opener or the tour closer, only to have more shows added on bookending the tour. And while the band is on tour, the only stuff that appears as new items on their site are garbage about Trooper beer (Love the beer, but keep that shit on the beer's website), and stuff about Rod's charity bike rides - nothing about the band.So really, when you think about it, Rod wouldn't be much different than any the situation right now, except he wouldn't be waging a war against the fans. Facebook updates have never been so poor, posting YouTube crap captures of recent shows, or old GnR shows with Slash & co., which is completely non-sense in regards to current band. Not mentionning the big mess around Las Vegas DVD.HTGTH, which is run by a fraud (bought & owned by TB), is a sad joke. Go there and read how Going Down is not mentionned. Go there and read how jarmo is trying to justify how Pittman interview is not negative and how coherent is GNR. What a fraud. Just hope non casual fans do not join that board, and I wish mygnr has much more visits and visibility on the web. Thanks mygnr guys to keep this fun place alive - there are some cupcakes but at least they make me laugh. As soon as we have a piece of news (e.g.: leaks), cupcakes disappear and most of members are supportive.What a pity to see this great band, with creative guys (Axl, Tommy, Ron, DJ), losing its potential and its opportunity. Time goes, and it will be too late in few years. Do you really expect Axl releasing some YCBM-like songs at 65? Come on. Still, what they view as their field of responsibility is such a narrow space that I'm sure they don't do many 'mistakes within it. From their POV, trying to get Axl to release new music, or trying to get Axl ' out there' is not among their responsibilities. To them, he is a friend/father/God/porcelain colossus to be shielded and protected, not a client with art that needs to be created, published and distributed.Way Axl elevated Beta was a beautiful and rare thing in it's own right. Generally speaking such stuff doesn't happen in the dystopian caste society that U.S.A has been turned into. Imagine the gratitude and love and dept you'd feel in such situation. It is a situation where you don't give a fuck about clients or art or business but instead, worship the person and do your utmost to please him and keep him happpy. How connected ir disconnected Axl is from more artistic aspect of life is not relevant to them.Good manager knows when it is time to kick some ass and try to expose the artist and push him off comfort zones. Bad manager kisses ass and shields the artist even while knowing it'd be a moment to do something else. It is unreasonable to expect anything but the latter from team brazil.Having said that, Axl propabbly doesn't get a long with a good manager.
