I traded KISS Alive II 12" vinyl to a diehard KISS fan for GN'R Patience single 7", GN'R SCOM single 7", and Aerosmith Rocks 12" vinyl today at school.

Nice! Did you have an extra or just get rid of it?

The only Kiss LPs I have are 2 hits packages (Double Platinum and Smash, Thrashes & Hits) and Alive III and Unplugged. I think that's all I'll ever need to own... actually that's probably a lot more than I need haha.

Got rid of it, wasn't a fan of Alive II. The ones I want are Creatures of the Night, Double Platinum and Peter's solo album.

Duff's autograph on The Taking, I had a question about it. Anyone know what the ¡BTO! means?

Has anyone ever tried this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_gyvipBs6Vs

I tried it on 3 records over the past couple of days and I'm not getting anywhere near the results others are claiming.

I've got a Zep vinyl I picked up for 3 bucks that I'll try this on. Needs cleaning anyways. How did yours turn out?

It wasn't any worse by any means, but it wasn't any better either. Maybe very slightly better, but not much. It's worth trying either way, I'd love to get more input.

A buddy came over and helped me move everything in line last night:

Jesus Christ those LPs are heavy en masse Haha.

Did anyone else notice the rare GN'R 2002 tour sticker here? No? Just me?

GREAT catch!

Russ, where did you get the 02 sticker? and awesome vinyl collection. Do you have any Crowes LPs?

Thanks for the compliment on the collection :) I got the 2002 sticker at a local record shop a couple of months ago. They have a binder full of stickers that are all $1-$2 each and they just happened to have that in there so of course I had to scoop it up.

As for the Crowes, I currently have:

Amorica (2 different pressings, US and German with 2 bonus tracks)

Croweology

Freak N' Roll...Live

Live At The Greek

Three Snakes and One Charm (7" box set)

Warpaint

Wiser For The Time, Live

They're re-issuing the first four albums in late November so I'm gonna grab Southern Harmony and Shake Your Money Maker then.

The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion and Shake Your Money Maker are 2 of my favourite albums! I didn't know they were re-issuing them, so I'll be sure to pick them up :) Thanks for letting me know. I never managed to find Croweology around here, and the only one on eBay is like 70 bucks :( Live at the Greek is a cool album, the Jimmy Page/Black Crowes combination....that was awesome. Warpaint is a cool album, I don't think I've ever seen that on LP. I'm currently on the hunt for By Your Side LP. It'd be great if they re-released that.

Additions to my vinyl collection:

Paul McCartney-Band on The Run

Paul McCartney-Give My Regards To Broad Street

ELO-Greatest Hits

Jeff Beck-Wired

Jeff Beck-Flash

Croweology used to be super easy to find but it went out of print and now it's pretty rare. I'm 90% sure one of my local stores has one though for the regular price. I'll look next time I'm there if you want. I can grab it for you and we can work out PayPal for it or something. I've done that a lot for forum friends in the past and I never charge more than it cost me to buy, so you don't have to worry that I'd be making money on it :)

I love Shake and Southern as well but the originals have been out of print so long that they're expensive so I'm stoked about the re-releases. Lions and By Your Side or EXTREMELY hard to come by. The cheapest I've ever seen either of them is like $250 or so and I've seen both go for over $400. I like both albums a lot and I've been known to spend a LOT on one record, but that much I cannot justify haha.

Those are good picks you just got. One of my local shops is having a 20% sale so I just grabbed The 2nd Law by Muse finally seeing as I only wanted it for one song (Madness) and I got a copy of Pink Floyd's Obscured By Clouds in GREAT condition for $10 so I'm pumped!

edit-

BTW, the store that might have Croweology is the same store that had the 2002 Tour sticker. I'd be glad to check for that too if you like.

I haven't listened to anything on vinyl in a long time... I had quite a few albums but lost them all in our house fire. :( Maybe I should start collecting them and try to replace the ones I lost... sounds like a good idea!

I just love the sound of vinyl. If you're looking to re-buy some of the classics you had, you'd be surprised how inexpensive it can be.

So I have a tiny collection, probably 15 or so vinyls that I've picked up from various places over the years.

Problem is, I don't have a (working) player. I'm a uni student, so I can't afford anything expensive. Are you guys saying I have to wait until I'm working full time before I can play any of them? Or can I still pick something second hand up that won't damage my vinyls?

Any suggestions on the following options? I don't really know what I'm looking for, but these are some auctions ending close-by:

I don't mind getting my hands dirty in terms of servicing it and getting something working myself.

For something quick and cheap http://www.amazon.com/Ion-TTUSB-Turntable-USB-Record/dp/B000BUEMOO OR you can go with something like this http://www.amazon.com/Mutant-MIG-MT201-Capturer-Turntable-Direct/dp/B002QTYVY4 that has a USB port that allows you to record your vinyl to a .mp3 format. I've got one a little bit like the second one, but mine's got a radio player and built in speakers. I think it was $150 brand new

Edit: This is the one I have (I was way off on the price. It was 80 bucks) http://www.bestbuy.com/site/jensen-3-speed-stereo-turntable-black/3349743.p?id=1218397400400&skuId=3349743&ref=06&loc=01&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=3349743&extensionType={adtype}:{network}&s_kwcid=PTC!pla!{keyword}!{matchtype}!{adwords_producttargetid}!{network}!{ifmobile:M}!{creative}&kpid=3349743&k_clickid=193ef395-bf84-c129-52f1-0000086ca0c4

Not that rare, but still cool! I picked up 3 of them plus 3 flyers that look alike on eBay for maybe $4 all together?

Russ, where did you get the 02 sticker?

Check eBay if ya want one bud! They can be cheap sometimes!

Yeah, not sure that those cheaper new ones are necessarily any better than the older models which is why I'm looking at something second hand.

Yep. When I buy "new" vinyl it's usually because it's a new release. There's been a couple exceptions like the new re-issue of In Utero which I spent a lot on because I read great reviews. I was massively disappointed by that one so it'll be a while before I do that again.

I've also been cutting back lately on WAY over priced new release LPs. For example, I went to the record store yesterday specifically to pick up the new Pearl Jam only to find out that it was THIRTY FIVE NINETY NINE.....FOR A SINGLE LP.........FUCKING WHAT?? And it's not that my store is just over priced, I got my phone out and looked and found that it's the going rate. Well, the can keep that LP for that price. That's just ridiculous.

As for older LPs, you can find some stuff in great condition for very cheap especially with very popular albums so I usually go that route.

Edit:

I just remembered, I do make some exceptions and pick up the newer pressing when it ends up being cheaper. I got the 2 LP re-issue of STP's Core yesterday for $32 but only because all of the original pressings cost way more, so I just went with the cheaper of two evils haha.

That's good to hear... now I just have to remember what I had. I do remember quite a few though (VH, AC/DC, Joan Jett, Foreigner, J. Geils Band off the top of my head). Just curious... why does vinyl sound better than anything else, especially cds?

BTW, amazing collection you have there!

Somehow missed this earlier, sorry about that! Out of what you have there, pretty much all of them would be great except the first and last ones. The ones in between all have a "T" mount for the stylus as opposed to the "P" mount found on the first and last.

The short version of why you want the T mount is that you have a FAR greater selection to chose from down the line as you upgrade the stylus. You can get a stylus for like $50-60 to get you by for now that won't damage your LPs at all. But down the line you may want to start hearing more detail or use a micro line stylus or something and you can't do that at all with a P mount.

I haven't listened to anything on vinyl in a long time... I had quite a few albums but lost them all in our house fire. :( Maybe I should start collecting them and try to replace the ones I lost... sounds like a good idea!

Oh I hear ya on having a hard time remembering what you have, trust me. Even before my collection got to this size, I started an Excel sheet after coming home with new records a couple of times only to find out I already owned them! Haha.

As for why vinyl sounds better, there's a lot of factors and in many cases it's in the ear of the listener more than anything.

Thanks for the compliment on the collection :) Music is absolutely my passion so the collection is only that size because of how many different genres and artists I really love :)

Had an excellent run at the record shops this morning:

Alice In Chains-Black Gives Way To Blue

Mariah Carey-Music Box

Franz Ferdinand-Right Words, Right Thoughts, Right Action

Janet Jackson-janet.

Norah Jones-Come Away With Me

I was shocked to find the AiC, Janet and Mariah used, but I scooped them up right away!
