Was "2,000 Intentions" ever confirmed as a working title for the album?

It's my understanding that the title "2,000 Intentions" was referenced only once in print, in the same Kerrang article that named several songs that Axl has since confirmed are incorrect, such as "Cock-a-roach Soup" (Article here: http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/articles/showarticle.php?articleid=27 ... Axl's corrections here: http://www.chinesedemocracy.com/forum/index.php?topic=40966.504).

Was the "2,000 Intentions" name ever mentioned independently of the Kerrang story by anyone close to the band who'd be in a place to know? Obviously the title has been passed around since then as people talked about that article, but has it been confirmed elsewhere as a working title for the album?

It would have just been a teaser for the world wanting to hear about a new GN'R record in the year 2000. He had zero intentions back then and couldn't exactly call it 2000 intentions when there was no sign of an album for the best part of a decade later. Axl soooo thinks he is something he's not. Proved to be true today.

Maybe Axl thought that Chi Dem had about the same probability of happening as democracy in China.

I do like the name 2000 intensions... Maybe it would make sense when the album came out in early 2000, but when the album came out, the intension of releasing the album in early 2000 clearly failed.

But with the MTV awards, didn't Kurt loder ask when Chinese Democracy was coming out?

There was a forum called 2000 intentions. And no the name wasn't "fanmade", it was one of the confirmed names thrown out for the album.

The portuguese forum 2000 intentions was actually where Fernando, Jarmo, Lourenco and Meanbone (i don't know his name) met. Lourenco and Meanbone were the portuguese hoarders.

There was this guy saying it was all fake in htgth back in the day. To lazy to research that.

There was never a confirmation from the camp of that being legit. That Kerrang article has a lot of bullshit too.

Me and other people who spoke with both. They all went to Rock in Rio and met Fernando in person then. And the rumor is that's how the portuguese guys got the cd with the songs. From the guy himself. Everytime Jarmo comes to Portugal, Lourenço and Meanbone go backstage. (they take pictures too)

I just remembered - Wasn't the general consensus GN'R were to release 2000 Intentions in 2000 and cash in on the whole hoo-ha surrounding the year 2000. They could have played Times Square, it could have been great. Sadly none of this was the case.

January 2000: Axl lets Rolling Stone writer David Wild listen to dozens of tracks off Chinese Democracy. Wild describes the music as "Physical Graffiti remixed by Beck and Trent Reznor." GnR manager Doug Goldsterin says: “'As far as I can tell, 'we are now 99% musically done and 80% vocals done. I see the record being done February or March for a summer release.''

January 2000: In the Rolling Stone article Axl talks about his decision to continue using the Guns n Roses name. “It is something I lived by before these guys were in it. And there were other people in Guns N` Roses before them, you know.” On the new record he says. “It's not an Axl Rose album, even if it's what I wanted it to be.”

March 2000: John Freese leaves GnR to form A Perfect Circle.

Spring 2000: Producer Roy Thomas Baker begins working on the album. A&R man Bob Ezrin is also brought onto the project.

October 2000: Drummer Brian “Brain” Mantia (formerly of Primus) and guitarist Buckethead join the band. Also, Robin Finck rejoins.

When I read about the 2000 Intentions title it said it's what GNR thinks of as a joke.

It would have been cool if they left Chi Dem off CD and had it for CD II.

Maybe they thought it was a joke once they woke up to the fact it sounded not so great. Then they came up with Chinese Democracy, which wasn't much of an improvement.
