Chinaski
It's out there now for those who are interested.Been looking forward to it for a while. I'm about to give it a first listen. To be honest I went a bit cold on them a couple of years ago but R U Mine? was great and drew me back in.Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High impressed me too. It's like an R n B Arctic Monkeys song.I think the last track is a John Cooper Clarke poem so that'll be interesting. I love that guy. Guest Len B'stard
They had potential to be something really cool...but they just sort of turned into a rock band.
Chinaski
Yeah I kind of agree. I love the first record for what it is. I'm glad it exists. I don't care enough anymore to criticise them for not doing what I thought they were great at. Between R U Mine? (decent rock track) and High (sexy change of pace) they sustained my interest enough for me to download the album. Which I'm sure will mean a lot to them. Guest Len B'stard
I love how they took that band format and made like...something very distinctive...and its not like bullshit mindless rock lyrics, it's something contemporary thats like...relevant to now. And then like, they were sooo like....of where they're from? Kept the accent when they sang, it's like they reflected a certain under-represented type of person, a person who ain't really 'cool' in the typical sense. And it was danceable, like you could actually proper dance to it, not just jump about like mentalist at a punk gig (which i love too, don't get me wrong). They really had something unique...but then i guess if you love like...rock music then hey, do it, i just think they had something really good going on that they could've expanded on in a different direction than the one they took. Horses for courses i guess.
Gordon Comstock
I thought the first 2 albums were good, after that I lost interest. I might check out a few tracks on youtube or something....

izzygirl
I bet you look good on the dance floor was like a rush of fresh air. Nothing pretentious, just pure music. But then fame and praise arrived and their brand new coolness disappointed me. Anyway, a couple of months ago someone on other forum made a thread about this album and uploaded 2 songs, "R U mine?" and "Do I wanna know?" It was a really nice surpirse. I didn't hear the album yet but I will definitely do it.

izzygirl
Translation: Even I don't know what i meant Yes, yes I know. It didn't sound pretentious, it didn't sound like they wanted to reinvent music, it was just a "normal" song, a normal and simple rock song (deal with it). Somewhere a Boss is weeping Everybody's got a secret Lenny, something that they just can't face. Some folks spend their whole lives trying to keep it, they carry it with them every step that they take.'Till some day they just cut it loose or let it drag 'em down where no one asks any questions or looks too long in your face. highvoltage
Please keep it on topic guys. I've only heard Why'd You Only Call Me as far as the new album goes. I guess it's OK, pretty catchy, but I'm hoping the whole album isn't in that direction.I really enjoyed their early stuff, but lost interest somewhere along the way I suppose.... izzygirl
Please keep it on topic guys. Except the last comment, the rest was totally on topic. Chinaski
It's a bit underwhelming first listen simply because I've already heard the first two tracks a bunch of times before.I'm not sure what I think so far. I went back and forth on Suck It and See and Humbug too. The more energetic tracks always grab me first. It takes me a while to digest the rest. Dead Flower
Love this album.Arabella is like Sabbath meets Bee Gee's or sumthin.Do I Wanna Know awesome. The Josh Homme colab songs great.
ManetsBR
Great album.Arabella = Sabbath's War Pig + Crue's Shout At The Devil.Hey izzygirl, what do you mean by pure music being the opposite of Muse? Honest question. Edited September 19, 2013 by ManetsBR
classicguns4life
I was never a big Arctic Monkeys fan. I knew their first album, but never really heard it. I knew Dance Floor, but thats it. Suck It And See came out, and as I'm not a fan of the band, I didn't care. There was an article online about the Suck It And See video being risque, so naturally the pervert in me took over and had me watch it. Oddly enough, there was nothing dirty about it (Ok, you saw a breast for like a second, but they said it was like full on porn) and the song KILLED. Downloaded the whole album and loved it. Still have not gone back and heard their other stuff but I'm gonna listen to the new album tonight based on the good reviews.Seems like a lot here are fans of early then lost them. Did anyone like Suck It And See? I don't know, that one just clicked with me like not much new music does. And if I'm a fan of that album, will I like the new one, and more importantly will I like the earlier stuff? Or is it totally different? izzygirl
Hey izzygirl, what do you mean by pure music being the opposite of Muse? Honest question.I meant that when I first heard I bet you look good on the dance floor, it simply sounded like a damn good rock song, Muse sounds too "planned" and there are too many samples and too much electronica and a bit overproduced. But the Monkeys' song reminded me of the classic rock bands somehow.
