TotonnoDuff
Hi everyone,I was just wondering if during the 90s also in other countries accross the world you had gnr-inspired rock bands...although "inspired" it's not the proper word in this case.I mean, in italy we had a band called DHAMM, which actually looked like a GNR cover band, (probably because of the unbelievably Axl-looking singer) but hey, they were actually a real band, songs were not that bad, and they even played the (in)famous Sanremo Festival, one of the biggest popular music events in Italy. This is a video of theirs : The video itself seems to me pretty full of gnr-intended puns and similarities, like the top-hat bass player, the candles, the singer's attitude, the guitar solo etc, so I was wondering if this "copying" phenomenon was just an italian thing or it just happened all over the world when Gnr where really Big.Cheers!Totonno
machinegunner
There was a band called Junkyard around the late 80s/early 90s that sounded somewhat like GNR with some southern rock influences, also signed to Geffen at that time -
dalsh327
I think Janes Addiction and GNR happened in this short window of time that if there were clones, they vanished pretty fast or the look was short lived. When it comes to videos, it's almost always in the hands of directors picked by the record company, at least it was that way back then. Guest Len B'stard
Marc Bolan was doing the top hat thing before Slash anyway.
Iron MikeyJ
I would say the first band is more inspired/influenced by the entire LA 80's scene, not just gnr. The guitar solo for example remindes me of eddie van halen in the hot for teacher video, the way he walks across the table. Were they influenced by gnr? Probably, but I see a lot of other influences also. The way the singer flinged his hair back remindes me or Bach in one of the old skid row videos. And the second band just kinda sucks, all around. GivenToFly
If a band was influenced by GNR musically you couldn't even tell. GNR didn't bring anything new to the table, they just combined a bunch of genres. So if someone borrowed an aspect of the GNR sound you would just assume they took it from the same artists that GNR took it from.
