Who represents original GN'R Better, Slash or Axl?

I would never start a Axl vs Slash argument because I think it's pointless. My question is nowadays, who represents original GN'R Better?

I've been to concerts from both performers and I enjoyed them a lot. Now, of course Axl IS GN'R. But Slash has a great band and still plays GN'R tunes.

I was never interested in Snakepit material in the least, but Slash's past 2 albums have been awesome, So lately I've become more of a fan of Slash than Axl.

IMO Slash has got it going on. He's a great performer and plays GN'R tunes the best. His band is tight and they sound excellent. Here's a list of what I see so far..

AXL.

1. Axl owns the name

2. He was the best singer of my generation (imo).

3. He plays all the GN'R songs people want to hear.

4. His reputation and antics onstage are unmatched.

5. Everyone wants to hear his "unreleased material".

SLASH.

1. He makes good music and releases albums.

2. His band sounds great and he still plays GN'R songs

3. He's a genuinely nice guy and is good with fans.

4. He's personable and is open with the press.

5. His playing and the tone of his guitar defines the original GN'R sound.

6. He's Slash! The tophat speaks for itself!

So is Axl. I have never heard a bad word from a fan who met him.

His playing and the tone of his guitar defines the original GN'R sound.

Defines PART of the GNR sound. A lot of that original grit came from the wailing banshee vocals.

He's Slash! The tophat speaks for itself!

Axl Rose - one of the last larger than life rock stars on this planet. Sure the press love to hate him, but the man has an aura around him that few, if any, others in the business today have.

Slash is the main reason a younger generation of fans even knows of Gn'R. Slash's image is iconic, his style of play is iconic. Axl is Axl but he's done fuck all to carry the torch. Even without the GnR name Slash has done FAR MORE to reperesent Guns N' Roses than Axl.

Slash has done far more than Axl. Slash is more iconic now than Axl is. Slash has released like what? 6 or 7 cds since Guns N'Roses have broken up....and they're all good too!

Axl is the main sound of Guns N'Roses. The voice is always the trademark, however at the moment Slash has a big advantage and he's the better musician. Besides, judging by Chinese Democracy and Slash's cds, he's also the better writer...

none of them, but...

Slash can write hiss ass off with all his riffs n' licks and old GN'R trademark guitar sound when the melodies of lyrics , lyrics themselves and singer don't quite fit that style.

On the other hand, I liked new GN'R back in 2002 a lot, had energy, chemistry among members,....etc

I like Chinese Democracy , for me it's the best album made in last 20 years, ... not better than original GN'R albums (except TSI), but sure better than anything Slash/Duff/Izzy/Adler produced since they quit GNR (although I liked Contraband a bit,.... Libertad and Slash solo attempts were just

I don't like it much these days , as I would prefer "2 RF's GNR'" - Robin Finck/Richard Fortus - both rhythm/lead, and I'd love to hear some new stuff, and not watch the same show, ... but I waited 20 years for something I was losing' my hope to ever hear (CHD) and I will wait for the next,... badmouthing band, makin' fun of Axl, members, gigs, songs, vocals, look, shape, weight WON'T help Axl and this band and their concentration to make something spectacular and put it out soon.

It's like when you want somebody to do something proper for you and you're constantly bashing him, attacking him and making fun of him, ...i don't get it,...

Regardless of their short-comings, Slash's records are closer in style to the 'Appetite sound' of old gnr so I would have to say, Slash. Chinese Democracy, sans Axl's singing, sounds nothing like the old band. So I would say Slash. It would be different if Axl entered a studio and recorded a raw rock n' roll album in 30 days or less - then, I would say Axl.

Slash doesn't have to be billed as "Slash of Guns N' Roses", it's like people know who he is and know what he does, he's one name famous like Madonna and Santana.

I think it's good to explore the music he's done and figure out the direction GNR might have gone in had he stayed. But at the same time, the bands should stand on their own merits and not be scrutinized too hard, either you like them or you don't.

I don't think one or the other represents original GNR, you need Izzy, Steven and Duff to do that.

Today, I don't think either really represent the name very well. Slash has long been too corporate and safe. He's been in ads and Super Bowls and video games and everything you can market yourself on. Axl has been embarrassing and also safe, while lacking any effort or excitement.

Given how stuffed Axl's voice is these days. When it comes to the live shows, I hear more Guns N'Roses when Slash performs live. When new GN'R perform, they are total cover band. I'm not trolling in anyway, that's how new GN'R sound. I would prefer it if Axl dropped performing all the classic material, and stuck to Chinese D music, cover songs, and new material. Really.

I'll go with this answer: Neither.

The current version of Guns N' Roses is a far different animal than the original and it's not trying to be the original either. Slash isn't trying to do so either.

So I just feel like neither are ever trying to represent the original.
