Bumblefoot "Had the hardest time" dealing with Guns N' Roses' concert tardiness

Let's see, this guy wants me to join his band, but he is notorious for going on stage late, matter of fact he probably has never started a show on on time in his life. So I'm going to join, then be all bummed out about going on stage late.

It's a known issue, no big secret, maybe they should cover themselves and print on every ticker, band will take to stage from 7 o'clock onwards (when Axl's ready to do so, when he rolls a red etc :D or Yoda gives the thumbs up or or Dijon eats a whole tin of food or the moon aligns with whatever takes Axl's fancy)

To fill the unknown void, and avoid boredom, *additional entertaining will be provided.

*Additional entertainment could come various forms. Other bands, they could play video's on the screen at the back of the stage. Maybe short live links to the hired hands all waiting in the backroom showing Pittman boozing etc (Ron would love that) - Stuff like this..

There he goes again !!

Bitching about Axl and making himself look like the good guy.

Bumblefoot is only in this for the fame and $$$.

Its all gonna end nasty with this sleeze ball.

Bring back Buckethead !!

Why else would he be in Axl's GNR besides money and to raise his profile?

Actually I bet he actually did want to play, write and record with one of the best hard rock frontmen of all, probably just like Bucket.

I don't like Ron's music, but I appreciate him being honest with Guns fans and not ignoring the multitude of white elephants.

If being in Axl's band gets him money and fame, good luck to him I say, it could be a hell of a lot worse....(Ashba TM)

And Buckethead doesn't want back in.

heres what it does to the behind the scenes people and the band...it fucks with them as well. Your all reved up and ready to rock... your in your headspace and your adrenaline is juicing and your ready to go out and fucking entertain people ..only to peak early...crash and then have to booze up /coke up all over again. Duff tells a story about that.

the energy shifts to hostility ..people are sobering up and the moment is passing in the crowd.. that beer you had at 8:30 that you paid 10.00 for now makes you have to piss and it took you 2 hours to weasle your way to the front to see your favorite band and now you have to fucking go. Youve worked all day to get here and your fucking exhausted at 11 p.m. Its easy to see why people would resent the fuck out of that.. it does nothing to add to the atmosphere or the quality of the concert..if anything it makes them more critical.

Dublin was a picture of what fans should do to get the point across...make a fucking issue of it... theres no dangerous rock and roll or mystery attached to it...its another fuck you in you face from Axl and HIS COMPANY...Shit man get at least one part of your career and business right and thats do your fucking job and entertain them.

Thinking about Vancouver 02... Axl wasnt even in the country when he was supposed to be STARTING THE SHOW!!!!

You sum it up there. I have been in the situation twice but basically, the crowd automatically hates Axl and hates the fuckin band by about 10:30. You have the cat calls. Beer cups thrown on stage. Cries of 'axl, you wanker'. People leaving. It is automatically like, a 'us v them' scenario. It is hostile and it is unlike any other concert experience. And what is being lost here is, this is meant to be a fun situation, a concert. Concerts are unlike sports because, everybody - usually - supports the same team. They are festive.

And it was not very, 'rock n' roll' (this is such a lame, Jarmoish, excuse). It was just unpleasent, and to be honest, I just wanted to leave.

Has anyone else noticed that since axl went on stage on time his vocals arent as good?

Even if I believed (which I don't, his vocals were inconsistent and shit long before that), then he can get off his lazy ass, and get going on his usual routines a bit earlier. Ya know, to not be inconsiderate to the thousands of people paying to see you?

There's no reason for Axl to be consistently late on a regular basis. And there's no reason fans should just have to "deal with it" and not call Axl out out on his shit.

It's a problem, it's inconvenient to a lot of people, and there's no reason for it other than to be a selfish, self indulgent prick. Fix it and quit playing the victim like a little prima donna baby back.

And to his credit, he's gotten a lot better at it now.

You're both exactly right! This idea that going on late is so rock n roll and it adds to the experience is complete and utter fanboy bullshit. It's blind fanaticism at it's best/worst I went to GnR in Calgary in 2010 and YES they put on a kickass show and Axl did sound fantastic that night BUT they took the stage at almost midnight on a weekday. That is fucked up and inexcusable and nothing short of disrespectful towards everyone involved. Not only does this do a disservice to the fans and crew and band mates it also fucks over the open acts who many people choose not to see because they know there's a good chance they'll have to sit there and wait hours for GnR afterwards. Also this argument that people should just accept it, plan for it and chill is insane. If I wanted to sit and chill I'd go to a pub with my friends and chill. cheaper drinks, more comfortable seats and they serve till close. Not like a lot of major arenas that stop selling beer and other concession before GnR even hit the stage.

Last show I went to was the Foo Fighters(my god it's been a long time since I went to a show) on a weekday also and they played solid for 3 hours and rocked the shit outta the Saddledome in Calgary. The show was over by midnight and the crowd was absolutely jacked at the end. The place was still packed from top to bottom at the end and everyone LOVED the show. When I saw GnR in that same building in 2010 the place was almost full when the band hit the stage and half empty by the time they closed with PC and to be honest when it ended most people although having enjoyed the show seemed to get up and leave with a "thank god it's over" vibe. Nothing si worse than when the crowd is waiting for the show to end and even worse when half the crowd can't be bothered to wait. So anyone who says it's cooler, more rock n roll, and adds to the experience by going on late is so full of shit in my opinion. Going on late like that just fucks with the experience big time.

only reason I can think of is hes bi polar. Undiagnosed maybe. Or parties too much after the show. Or has stage fright. Or is a big narcisaist. Or go fuck ourselves. He doesnt seem like a enough of a total prick to be late just because. That would be too awesome.

Half empty at mine also. Another factor is, even before gnr hit the stage I am already worrying whether I am going to be sleeping on a park bench until the morning when the transport kicks in. This stuff is running through your head (''taxi fees, transport, can I make the 309 bus in time?'') when you are sitting there with your shitty overpriced beer watching Paradise City.

It is just a nightmare seeing guns, it really is.

I just think it's because he's inconsiderate and selfish.

Being late is a psychological tactic used to create energy.

I think it sucks, but it has merit. I've been to a lot of shows where the band starts early and on time, and finishes early and on time. It's fucking boring.

GNR creates an anxiety that fuels both band and crowd. Not saying it's a good thing, but it works.

Haha that's so cute. You say that like you actually believe it.

Hahaha I have never heard such garbage in my life. The blind defence of Axl Rose has reached all new levels with that one.

Did Axl delay shows in the past to get the crowd worked up? Probably, but most of the stories about him late sound like someone going through the motions to go on stage because of stuff going on in his head. But when the delays are 3 hours and the band's wondering what's going on and not kept in that loop, it's not going to make THEM play a better show, and people will just leave. He has selective views on the fanbase agreeing with him through applause, but I'm sure he heard the boos at the festivals where they were just there to hear the hits. The Brooklyn show could have been a disaster based on past history of festivals, Rocklahoma probably expected him to be late but that's more "his" crowd and would have rolled with it. The moment he tried to end a show early so fans wouldn't get stranded, was a very appreciative audience.

we are just over entitled pussies that want rock n roll spoon fed to us by corporate rock whores. we want it safe and we want it now. Wrong decade, wrong band I guess.

I think really if you go along with Axl stealing or destroying the band then why no believe Alan Niven, Axl has stage fright.

I honestly have never experienced or heard of a show's entertainment factor being impacted because a band actually starts close to the time printed on the ticket.

Saw gnr live in '06 and again in '10.Both shows started within 45 mins or so of the last opening act.I could see complaining if you waited around for a long period of time with no entertainment, but in my case at least that didn't happen.

I've waited 3 and a half hour, some ticket owners went home after 2 hours of waiting

(it was a working day)

I'd be pissed to if I waited around with nothing going on and could see why people would leave.Like an hour would really be no big deal to me anything longer especially 3 hours would be a turn off.And I'm talking about just waiting with tumbleweeds blowing around, not when there is opening acts playing.
