DownUnderScott
Hi Marc, with your monetary aid and general support for the band you were obviously instrumental in the development of the growing success of GnR in the very early days. This can't be denied by anyone, even the band members have been quoted as saying that you were extremely important to them. With your passion for their music, your loyalty and also belief in them, combined with your business skills - did the band ever talk to you in the 80's about becoming their manager, or have an official role of any kind in the band? I think maybe you could have been a pretty big asset for them if they had of put you on the payroll for Guns N Roses back then... Just wondering ? recklessroad
I wouldn't know how to do the things that really needed to get done for them to get were they needed to be. That takes experience. However Perla was trying to get me to manage Slash in 2005. She knew that I could be trusted and that I would have the best interest for Slash. I guess they had a bad run of managers. Also she knew that I knew what needed to be done to patch some things up with Axl which I'm sure was her goal. So for that alone she was right but I didn't have the time or the real skills to manage him properly as far as all the other things that needed to get him to where he is now. I feel I did my part in 1985. I wished I could have help them more when they really needed it in 1995/1996 In many ways I was the perfect middle man between Axl and Slash. DownUnderScott
Okay, cool. Thanks for the reply... I guess you have gained much more managerial/ business skills and knowledge along the last decade or so with your role at Canter's, but I suppose that is more like restaurant & hospitality experience. I just thought , like you mentioned, that you would have been the perfect guy to have an important central role with the band as you seem like you would have had 100% the best intentions for Slash, Axl, and GnR in general. That's interesting that you say Perla was keen for you to be involved with Slash more, and even more interesting that you think Perla would have maybe the thought about you helping a reconciliation between Slash and Axl. You appear to be not just the perfect middle man between Axl and Slash, but possibly the only middle man that could facilitate a ' burying of the hatchet '.Do you think in 95/96 that the band could have brought in a band psychologist to help with communication and relations between the remaining members of GnR to hopefully get them back on track? Much like Metallica did with the period of conflict in the band when they made that documentary about it. It seemed to help them. I guess with James and Lars you have two big stars with strong personalities much like Axl and Slash.
