Raz0r
http://youtu.be/htfOvEO46ok I've never been a big Dream Theater fan, but I'm really diggin' this new album. The lead single "the Enemy Inside" rocks, and there's a ballad "surrender to reason" that's really growing on me. And there's a lot of badass metal in between. \m/ \m/

Are you a big Dream Theater fan? The only other album I've heard of theirs was "Scenes from a Memory", and I didn't get to into it. I found that it slowed down to much for my taste in metal. Is that normal for them? If not, and if they have more albums like this one, I'd love some recommendations.

They excel at the more melodic, slow stuff but they have a lot of excellent, heavier stuff as well.If you are into more heavy metal and fast stuff I would recommend the album Awake, it is considered one of their best from their earlier works. Train of Thought and maybe Systematic Chaos might be good for you too. Those are actually two of my least favorite records by them (not that they are by any means bad) but I feel as if they are the band's heaviestMy favorites though are Octavarium (the title track on this one is the stand out), Images and Words (this is their most famous album, has a lot of variety in my opinion- a must have for a DT fan), Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (the band at their peek imo. Side one is really good and side 2 consists of one, 45 minute epic. Lots of different emotions, sounds, and variety here), and A Dramatic Turn of Events (their last album, first without Mike Portnoy. A very good album, tons of different kinds of songs. Lots of all out heavy epics, and soft, melodic touches)Also you have to check out the songs A Change of Seasons and Count of Tuscany. Two fantastic epics.Sorry that may be confusing but I really like Dream Theater

TStrange, because this is what I'd recommend someone who is not into metal. It is in my experience anyway, since I'm not generally into metal, but this has a more rock sound to it, less so metal, and it's probably my favorite Dream Theater for that reason.
