Do you believe Axl still thinks about his musical legacy or is it all about cashing in on the tour money that the GNR name generates? In the beginning I believed that Axl kept the name so he could get the advance money to put together the band he needed to execute his musical vision. But at this point it seems like he has completely given up and is more than happy to continue touring off the old band's legacy while shucking a reunion because of some unresolved bitterness over Slash leaving him all those years ago.

Axl does care, and if he was in it for the money then he would have done some kind of reunion because that would be the real payday. He also could have agreed to put out some old gigs that would have also been a good money maker. He also would have agreed to let movies use songs from the old band all those years. However I also think that if he stop turing that the band would go under, so You can't have it both ways. If you still like to go see a GNR gig then the only way that could happen is the band tours. How would he be able to keep the band together if he didn't tour? Also just because they tour doesn't mean they are making big money but it is enough to keep the band together.

It is the lack of new material that we are concerned about though. Axl seems so reluctant to release new material, and the touring has become very staid - and the crowds are evaporating. If Axl had a new album out we would of course all welcome tours. How long can a band sustain themselves on solely, greatest hits tours? Well quite long in fact but the band usually slips into irrelevancy.

I think Axl is attached into the past in a way. He enjoys playing the old songs at concerts. I think this whole new Guns was a desperate attempt to cling to the only thing left to him. And a form of revenging of the other members for making him suffer, for having hurt him somehow (in his view)
Axl always knew that his inability to control his moods would end up turning against him. He was afraid of being kicked out of GNR, so he became increasingly controlling.
Now that GnR is his band, he doesn't need to worry about anything.
I dont think this is about music legacy, money or anything like that. Is a personal issue. Axl has said GNR is his life. The only thing he really wants is the idea of being the leader of GnR for the rest of his life.
He lost many things in his life, but no one can take it from him, is like he is the GNR and that's all.
That is my view about the whole thing.
