ChristmasFnatic
I wasnt planning on seeing this, but almost all critics say its a technological marvel with a hard science/deep emotional story. That it is one of the best movies you have seen in recent memory and a must on 3D. Usually, Id take it with a grain of salt, but even people at Blu-ray.com who have seen it said its good. Something both audience and critics love.So anyone seeing this?

DR DOOM
Im not so sure on the Clooney/Bullock as astronauts casting...that's a big put off for me (though I have nothing against them per se, just not together as astronauts)Wont top 2001! Randy Lahey
Terrible casting, but this director did make Children of Men. I'm going to go see it tomorrow night. Hopefully Clooney and Bullock don't ruin it for me. Edited October 3, 2013 by Randy Lahey
sweetness
Ever since I saw the trailer for the first time, and that Alfonso Cuaron is directing, I've been intrigued. The only remotely discouraging thing to me is the PG13 rating I guess. Hoping to see it this weekend.Terrible casting? Are you just saying that because Clooney and Bullock are super high profile mega-stars are do you actually consider them to be bad actors?EDIT: apparently this is my 14,000th post. yay me Edited October 3, 2013 by sweetness

Spoon87
I plan on seeing this in the next few days. I read nothing but good things about the movie and the idea of floating alone through space has always intrigued me.

Bullock is the same in everything. Clooney has a gift for broad comedy and makes much better films, but no ones ever confused him with Kevin Spacey/Philip Seymour Hoffman/Sean Penn etc. Edited October 3, 2013 by Angelica

Coma16
Don't care to see this movie. I'm sure it'll look stunning in IMAX though.
Zint
For a few months, every time the trailer played before a movie, the entire theatre would burst out laughing when Sandra Bullock started floating away. It looked like a total pass. Now the hype machine is putting a "you have to see this movie in your lifetime" spin on it.So I dunno..I might go.Agree the casting blows. Playing a (presumably oddly perky) astronaut. Winslet, Blanchett, Connelly, Farmiga...seriously, no one more suitable was considered/available? I wouldn't swat the movie away just because Bullock floating through space looks funny (which in reality, it would look funny with anyone). I definitely recommend it, and if at all possible, see it in IMAX. It's definitely a movie that was made for IMAX, as it's quite an experience and journey as a whole. The 3D was great too. Randy Lahey
Gravity was "barking bad." I'm not kidding. It would have been better if Sandra Bullock had been hit by a fucking asteroid and her dead corpse floated thru space for the next 85 minutes with Riad N' The Bedouins playing on a loop. That said, if you are a Tom Hanks fan you will probably love it. Edited October 4, 2013 by Randy Lahey
Black Sabbath
I didn't dislike Bullock, but I did dislike her character at times as she could get quite annoying. I got used to it, though.I would have liked to see more of Clooney shooting around on that space jetpack though
Randy Lahey
At one point she started barking. That's how bad this movie is. Edited October 4, 2013 by Randy Lahey
Black Sabbath
That scene made me a little uncomfortable, but I kind of understand why it was there. Sinceshe was thinking she was going to die and heard the dogs on the communicator it reminded her of things she thought she wasn't going to see again. Randy Lahey
In fairness to Bullock and Clooney, the dialogue that they had to work with was terrible.
ChristmasFnatic
Gonna watch it tonight with my gf, IMAX 3D. Cant wait!!!Anyway I think if they cast some unknown or lesser actors, casual audiences might not watch it, cuz it wont have a "blockbuster" feel. Regardless, Im excited. Hope my expectations are met.

Georgy Zhukov
Marion Cotillard, Scarlett Johanson and Blake Lively tested for casting. Marion would have been the most convincing of the three, certainly a lot more tolerable than Bollocks.According to IMDB, these are the women who tested.Angelina Jolie was originally cast but dropped out later. Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Natalie Portman, Marion Cotillard, Abbie Cornish, Carey Mulligan, Sienna Miller, Scarlett Johansson, Blake Lively, Rebecca Hall and Olivia Wilde were all subsequently tested or approached for the lead role. Finally, Sandra Bullock was cast.I think Cuaron is an overrated director. Great with visual effects and camera movements (largely thanks to Lubezki) but he sucks when it comes to actually telling a story.
