Remember this interview.......seems like a completely different person

Why do you think his personality or general essence changed so much over the last decade? Even the way he dresses has changed 100%

In this video he seems like a really soft spoken, goofy and humble guy.

Nothing like the guy in the one video where he is slamming the door and yelling f*ck off at somebody, or the sucker punch at the airport, or the very calculated answers he gave on the Metal show.

Before the Axl worshippers go crazy bashing me, I'm not saying the video is a good thing or a bad thing.

Just wondering why people think his demeanor has changed so much over the last decade?

He was a very tormented person at the time of the interview.

Why he is so happy to talk to the interviewer is because he is just a sports journalist who is only asking silly little basketball questions. He is so happy to answer questions sort of like as no one in particular, a random celebrity caught watching the game in the audience.

you drop a question concerning slash or the new album in there and you would definately see a RADICAL change of mood in the conversation.

Nah- he's just messed up in the head...remember this Slash discussion (before mommy breaks it up)...

He was probably stressed & strung out by the negative backlash he had to put up with at the time. I don't think he was in the position mentally to throw fits or be full of himself. I also think he must have had a lot of doubt about his career and the future of GnR at the time. My two cents.

Oh look, another essay from Groghan where he mentions the "worshippers." Somehow the logic of the opening post doesn't really make much sense whatsoever. Axl has always had a fiery temper. Somehow the opening post is trying to spin it in some rather bizarre fashion. Axl had rants before the interview. He had rants after the interview. He stopped shows before the interview. He stopped shows after the interview. He's answered impromptu questions recently when paparazzi see him. Do you see what I'm getting at? The premise of the thread is utter nonsense.

It would be cool if someday Axl could just get past all the stress and tension and bitterness and realize that he has an amazing life, more money than he could ever spend, and that there are millions of fans out there that love his music. And millions of fans that will buy ANYTHING he puts out!!!!

I think he had been avoiding the media to avoid questions about Guns n Roses, so when this guy asked him who he was rooting for you see his face light up, and I think that's why you get a humble and calm Axl. He was probably relieved that this guy was so clueless or light hearted in his questions. Either way it's cool that they were able to catch him and get a conversation out of the guy.

True....I'm guessing mommy wasn't around (maybe was cleaning at the time....or Axl snuck out) or she didn't have complete control as she does now.

Axl looks similar to 2001 now, aside from the shorter hair and the mustache. 2001 to 2002 was a bigger change look wise.

He had more courage in 2001. He was back and ready to make history with CD.

And aside from the goatee and the 35-40 lbs and the jowel (extra chins). Yeah...I guess... he looks the same.

And looking like a cowboy porn star. Yup, thats how I remember classic Axl.

I think you guys are all too hard on Axl regarding the person he was or has become. Honestly, he's not out there enough for us to judge. Probably shouldn't judge in the first place. But to me, with the little glimpse we get into his life, he seems happier than ever. He admitted as much with Eddie Trunk. I've tended to think that part of the reason we don't get new material is because he no longer has the fight in him to deal with the bullshit that surrounds that endeavor.

He seems quite relaxed in this interview too, again with a different look. However he's not being harrassed like the slamming door & LAX. Just an ordinary guy doing an ordinary interview about something he seems to be interested in.

Ive always thought this. However, remember what axl was like in the illusion days? He was more angry and punchy than he was in the years aftrr this interview.

I put it down to him being outside of his normal surroundings and being in a good mood. Its different when the focus is on him.

it is the only piece of video that baffles me about axl and hard to believe what he had accomplished at that point.

Axl strikes me as a very bitter man. He was on top of the world, literally one of the world's most popular and recognizable musicians.

Now? Now, instead of out shining Mick Jagger while guesting at a Stones concert, Axl stands in the crowd with DJ and various leeches from team Brazil.

...Maybe he just enjoys watching one of his favourite bands from the crowd as he's a huge fan and maybe, just maybe he didn't want to hop on stage with them considering all the other performers guesting with them over the 50th anniversary shows.

I personally think it's really cool that Axl would watch from the crowd, at a rock gig, where loads of people would obviously recognize him, just shows he's not as bad as everyone makes him out to be... maybe he's more normal than most give him credit for.

I also don't think he's bitter, seems pretty content... obviously, he still holds resentment towards slash and a few others but besides that he seems quite chilled.

Performing on stage with The Rolling Stones also means not seeing the concert, besides, Axl had already been on stage with them.

Being bitter about one person because things happened over a period of time? It's no different than an ugly divorce or business partnerships gone bad. I'm sure he thinks about what could have been but - Slash quit and that's the end of it.

One thing that all that money can't buy is sanity. I'm reading Duff's book right now and he mentions how he had a really nice, adult conversation and dinner with Axl one time in the mid 90s and half an hour later he heard Axl was thrashing the hotel and getting into a fight. And that's not an isolated incident: there are many mentions by those that have known him about how he's super friendly and quiet one moment and out of control the next. So it's not just that two Axls from a decade apart are different people; two Axls from ten minutes apart are completely different.

I think it's extremely unfair and almost tragic that Axl has been labeled as an asshole, as greedy, self-important etc, when it's pretty obvious to me that what he truly is is mentally ill.

Very interesting that my comment saying "Axl is bitter" has been deleted.

So, now we can be censored for saying negative things about GNR. Very interesting.

Mods, care to publicly comment on this removal? You know, just so we all know what can and cannot be said about Team Brazil, who appear to have a phenomenal amt of control over this board now.
