ChristmasFnatic
Anyone knows? Songs like SCOM, Jungle, Paradise City, etc... who made the melody/the tune most of the time?Did Axl make them and the rest just make music to follow suit? Or did Slash/etc. make the melody first then Axl added lyrics? Many thanks!

Didn't Slash say he was just messing around when he came up with the opening to SCOM and the lyrics were done by Axl (as a nod to Erin)? Something like that. Tyler Drama
It seems like most of the time, Izzy would bring an idea to the table and everyone would add their own twist to it.
gnrjanus
Izzy was the songwriter and if you look all the data up. Slash just brought in fills and lead parts. But izzy did all the writing.
DieselDaisy
Both. The songs on Appetite were written very organically. Sometimes a lyric idea instigated a song (Nightrain, PC), sometimes a riff (SCOM), but then everyone chipped in also so nobody knows who wrote what when the song was complete? In contrast, the (newer) songs on Illusion were written with someone writing the music first and Axl supplying the lyrics later - or two ideas being spliced together (as in the case of 14 Years). It was less a 'band effort', less organic.
niceguy
DJ. Oh, you mean GNR songs which actually matter? It was a team effort. There was no single mastermind. Without each other, the members of actual GNR are actually rather mediocre. Just listen to all of their various solo projects, which includes ChiDem. Mediocrity city. There was no sole great architect of GNR's success, no matter how badly Axl wants to rewrite history.
