So it's been 22 years to the day since Izzy left GN'R

Izzys departure was the beginning of the end....we all shoulda seen it coming when he bailed.

You didn't see it that way at the time? I tried to deny it, but if I was honest with myself I knew it was all unraveling. Axl was getter crazier by the day. Slash and Duff were getting drunker and more wasted by the day. Izzy stood for reason and stability in the band. Once the adult was gone, the children ran wild.
Whatever reason he had was pretty impotent in the sense that he wasn't able to mediate his band mates actions and make the band less dysfunctional and whatever stability he might have gained after becoming sober was something he took with him when he ran away after realized that he was too uncomfortable being in the band. He was a great musician, though.
Just do us all a favor and stop. Go for a walk or something.

Just pointing out that until his sobriety (late 1989) Izzy wasn't in any way a stable rock within the band:

Steven: "Izzy's just Izzy," I'd say, and we'd all nod. Izzy ended up popping in about half the time. Again, there was no pattern, no agenda ["My Appetite for Destruction", 2010]

Slash: Izzy has always been the kind of guy with somewhere else that he needed to be [bozza, Anthony, & Slash (2007). Slash. Harper Entertainment: New York]

Slash: Now I know that bolting is Izzy's defense mechanism when he thinks things aren't quite right: he never makes a show of it, he just slips out and won't look back. [bozza, Anthony, & Slash (2007). Slash. Harper Entertainment: New York]

Axl: It's Izzy's goal to be Mr. Invisible [Guns N’ Roses – Outta Control; Rolling Stone September 5th 1991].

And after his sobriety the band had stopped living together and there were no way whatever reason Izzy might possess could be levered to make the band more functional. The ship had sailed.

And instead of trying to understand what I meant, which isn't addressed by either your ability to compile quotes or the quotes you've compiled, you make, well, impotent attempts to correct me. It's boring, honestly.

This is the last I'll say to you on the subject.

Did you not mean that "Izzy stood for reason and stability in the band"? Because that is exactly what you wrote and which I have commented on by pointing out that he was incredibly unstable and not able to talk any sense or reason to anyone. His MO was to leave when the going got tough, not to level whatever reason he might have into fixing the problem.

The day it all ended was Aug 27, 1989, the day Izzy took a piss on the floor of a plane.

I don´t think it was one particular event. Many things happened too fast too soon. They were not mature enough. They went from living in the streets to the top of the world. They never really talked about issues. Axl´s rant during the Rolling Stones shows was not the way to deal with problems. And nobody was capable to come up with other way to put their shit together. They thought that getting rid of Steven was the solution. Steven was a scapegoat, just the top of the iceberg they didn´t see. Izzy saw the iceberg during the 1991 tour. He left and they let him go. They should´ve called a time out back then. But Axl was living in a bubble and Slash and Duff were too high and too drunk. Alan Niven was no longer there to make sure they would weather the storm. I think at the time Izzy´s initial intetion was a desperate call for help. But nobody went to the rescue.

even if the illusions lineup(minus izzy) did an album say around 95/96, it just wouldn't hold up to the guns vault in my opinion. he really made everyone better in the band in one way or another. as popular as axl/slash/duff were to the media and public, izzy had always been my favorite and knew things wouldn't be the same once he left. was never one to really bash anyone in the media either.

I remember in 1991 when it was announced he left, nobody even cared. Radio stations and fans never even mentioned it. They just continued with Gilby like nothing happened and fans welcomed him. Plus GNR's fanbase grew dramatically after UYI was released and Gilby was the guy in all the vids and interviews that the new fans saw.

It wasn't until years later that the fans in the general public realized how important he was to the band. Those 4 main guys were so pivitol to the GNR sound and evolution. The drummer, keyboard, etc. could've been anyone, but those 4 were all songwriters and had such strong, distinct personalities. I remember when Slash left they had callers call in to 97.7 HTZ FM and one guy was like "the band was over after Izzy Stradlin left" and the DJs (and myself) were like "wtf"!? Little did we know how correct he was...

Yeah, this is exactly as I remember it myself.

LOL.

Don't you know that his main reason to come to the forum is to educate the rest of us poor souls?
