Do you think Axl is haunted by what could have been for New GNR?

Yes. The 2002 lineup had the chance to be bigger than the originals, but axl ran it into the ground.

Not a chance. Not even close to the classic line up. I love the 2002 band Axl had. It was exciting and very talented, but that's just a ridiculous statement.

Robin leaving was the final nail in the coffin. Axl just stopped caring after that. Hired a mediocre and uninspiring replacement, let himself go, stopped putting effort into the performances, stopped caring about new music, let his vocals deteriorate, etc.

Great question. Although I can't recall sources right now, I've heard people say that Robin was Axl's Randy Rhodes. I wonder if Axl started to feel defeated when Robin left?

Bringing Brian May to play something he liked according to May himself cause he probably felt Robin's solos and other contributions were now a reminder of a negative experience (maybe like Izzy's work on TSI?) and even offering him the position of lead guitar player in Guns always seemed kinda desperate to me.

I don't blame Axl for it, I just think he lost direction around that time. He was lost cause he didn't have that special talent he could rely on, that was right for Gn'R as far as lead guitar goes, or even more generally, someone on his level.

Marc said Axl thought Robin could replace Slash in that sense, like he could play that role in all departments. I think that image wise, his nature was just not right for that whole thing. Musically speaking, I've always felt he had the right feel but maybe not the chops needed.

Didn't bother me at all though, and Axl later found Bucket anyway, and when Robin came back, it's like he had Slash covered cause now he had that iconic man with Bucket, and Robin's style was unique and lyrical enough to add something important to the sound of the album. It must have been a real pain in the ass to try and replace Slash.

...Do you think! Not trying to be a prick but, what is the deal (my seinfeld moment) with all the "what if, do you think" scenarios? We can think all day and all night, study every interview and song lyric but we're still not going to get a definitive answer... it's kinda pointless.

I will give you an answer though :) No! Axl firmly believes that his new band will succeed, even if that success comes 10/20 years down the road when the band is finished.

Do you think Axl is haunted by what could have been for New GNR? I wonder if that's what is killing his creativity at this point.

I don't see how that couldn't be in his mind, GNR could have done so much more in the 2000's and now so much time has already passed

I think the better question would be what haunts him more the wasted years with newGNR or Slash

Marc Canter has stated that Axl told him he wanted nu guns to be just as big, if not bigger than 87-93 guns.

That being said, there's no way I believe, even for a second, that he's content and satisfied with the way things have turned out. That's for sure.

People are so butthurt by him carrying the name. It's comical.

They are upset because he took the name and released only one new album over the past 20 years.

Nah. Let's be honest here Randy, mmkay?

You, in particular, were sooooo bothered that old Guns couldn't be discussed in D&N for the longest time. It was almost as if you took it personally. You whined about it, you committed faux civil disobedience over it, you continually posted threads about the old band in D&N, then cried when they were moved to the original Guns section. It happened over and over and over again. And then, and then... they allowed the very thing you had been campaigning for, for so long. AND STILL, you bitch and moan about GnR's name. Well now there's nothing the admins can do for you, because Axl owns you. And at some point in your life, you'll just have to come to terms with the fact that Axl owns the name and there is nothing you can do about it (other than run your mouth about newGuns on the internet that is).

Keep fighting the good fight bro. I'm sure one day, your magical GnR fantasy will come true. Keep the dream alive, bro. Keep the dream alive. :jerkoff:

2002 was Silly. Not as GNR... the whole line up looked and acted completely confused and utterly silly parading around trying to be GNR and i dont give a damn if the music was crisp and tight and professional...that was not in no way no how GNR. Sheeesh really.. BH doing his act in the middle of a GNR show? Robin evidently couldnt afford a new stage costume from his NIN days. 2006 Robin at least acted like he caught the clue.

Old GNR used to kick the shit out of posers like that just for fun and giggles from time to time and suddenly ANTI GNR shows up under contract as GNR. Smooth move there Axl way to further YOUR cause.

Image alone (what little we saw of them) and never promoted openly together confused the hell out of the faithful, then the music was ...well ok..obviously Axls on some kind of drugs- but- we- can- adapt- sort of excuse making started. A few even went so far as to say it was part of Axls "master plan" Soon definately wasnt the word by any means and it still isnt.

However as Axls Band of Hired Band of Merry Melody Makers they might have had a chance to take thier place in the halls of respected earnest authentic tribute bands And had Axl had the brains and the balls to step out on his own as a SOLO act they might have made it own thier own merits, thier own sweat equity, And DIG THIS CONCEPT their own MUSIC!

Had AXL done that.. well people would be saying something to the effect I really loved his work in GNR hE WAS AWESOME BACK IN THE DAY and this new stuff is pretty good , not bad for a 50 year old guy. They would be saying Damn this is good stuff , its different than what he did in GNR and thats COOL. Instead of going WHAT IN THE FUCK IS HE THINKING??? Instead of listening to the first minute of every song on CD and going REUNION ...I WANT A FUCKING REUNION .. ANYBODY LISTENING ...REUNION!!!!!

Do I? Or is that you're projecting your own emotions on to what I wrote? Oops. I understand though- you're just not used to reading and critically thinking about so many complete sentences in a row like that. Try again, honey. Try again.
