Powerage5
What is the film actually about? All i can gather is they go to space to some how save the world... sounds like armageddon. Trailer doesn't mention much plot.Basically all the crops on Earth are failing, (presumably) because of severe dust storms. NASA taps Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) to go and choose a planet from several explored previously that would best suit sustainable life. All sorts of complications arise due to time dilation. Without giving much away, that's it. I saw it in 70mm IMAX this morning. I really enjoyed it. I don't know I'd say it was BETTER than Inception, but it was more my cup of tea - I'd certainly be more likely to watch it than Inception. I do have to say, I didn't notice a significant difference in image by seeing it in 70mm as compared to other movies I've seen in IMAX. Nosaj Thing
Can't wait to get the score by Hans Zimmer. It's released on the 17th.It's fucking killing me, man. Even resorted to listening to rips on YouTube from boots of the film (the docking scene in particular). There's a super-duper limited edition that's only being released in US :/http://www.myplaydirect.com/interstellar-soundtrack/interstellar-soundtrack-illuminated-star-projection-edition/details/33155828Thank you for the link. I think I'll get that version. I'm very tempted.
sweetness
I don't know I'd say it was BETTER than InceptionWait, is there this consensus that Inception was actually a good movie? Jesus christ.Interstellar got pretty sappy at times, there was a point about halfway through where I thought to myself, "this should have just been called Crying in Space", but it really was a well put together and fairly believable (up until the black hole tesseract/Cooper being found shit) sci-fi story, and that's all that I want out of movies like this. Space science fiction is usually predictable and unimaginative as fuck, this was definitely a breath of fresh air as far as that genre is concerned. I enjoyed it even though it rode that human emotion train a bit too hard for my taste. You can only spend so much time on that shit in a work of fiction imo. Not to take away from the film itself but Zimmer's score was the biggest highlight for me, damn he's good. Not to take away from the film itself but Zimmer's score was the biggest highlight for me, damn he's good. That was my favorite thing about it. The first two acts of the film were some of the most believable science fiction I've ever seen - very grounded in reality. And even the third act - it's something literally no human being knows anything about, so you can't really blame Nolan for getting creative with it. I was watching a video of Neil DeGrasse Tyson talking about the ending last night and he sort of said the same thing; he said for any being that has a perceptible fifth dimension it's not unreasonable to think they'd be able to interact with time the way we do with our three dimensions. He said it's something that we as humans can't explore and can't really even percieve, and he gave Nolan credit for running with that idea. The one thing that really bugged me was that Cooper was supposed to be the best pilot NASA ever had, so it would be assumed that he had a good amount of knowledge about space. However before visiting the first planet, he had to have black holes explained to him like he was five. I know he wasn't an astrophysicist or anything, and I know the sole purpose of that scene was to explain to viewers who know nothing about black holes what they are, but I just didn't find it believable that he wouldn't know a single thing about black holes - the the point of having to be told "that's why they're called black holes". Amir
The docking scene has more prominent strings. Also the heavy organ notes starting at 0:38:

Amir
Thanks, Amir. "Come on, TARS!!"TARS is Character of the Year for me, along with Caesar from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.Hmm, after listening to Imperfect Lock that's still not the music to the docking scene. Where oh where is it...Maybe it's on that 2-disc special edition? Dammit, may have to order that, was hoping to just get iTunes Deluxe Edition... Amir
Completely understandable. I was going to get the Deluxe Edition, now I'm not.I guess we have to wait for YouTube rips of tracks from the Illuminated Star Projection Edition to see if it's on that (which I'm guessing it is).$46 is a lot, though, and it doesn't even ship to UK.
