Completely understandable. I was going to get the Deluxe Edition, now I'm not.

I guess we have to wait for YouTube rips of tracks from the Illuminated Star Projection Edition to see if it's on that (which I'm guessing it is).

$46 is a lot, though, and it doesn't even ship to UK.

What's one more thing to have shipped to me?;)

Hah, thanks for the offer, man, I'll think about it for now, I've already spent too much money on fucking Dreamcast maracas

And I just got some news from Hans about the Docking track :

"We are going to give it away for free...We are just waiting on some additional clearances. But the record company is totally into it. Plus, they are working really hard to make the "Lightbox" available everywhere. It's quite complicated."

From the same thread:

Actually Hans told me if the Illuminated boxset is so hard to release everywhere it's because of countries regulation on batteries (mercury) & lights...

Not the rights of the music itself...

I watched it last night and thought it was pretty good.

The weakest part of the film, imo, was Matt Damon's character....and the entire story around him, fight scene, etc..... Pretty much unnecessary, but I'm guessing it was put in to add "drama" and some action. Tons of other things they could have done with the 20-30 minutes that it took up, imo.

As far as ultra dimensions go, etc.... I think the film did a fairly decent job explaining what they were and how it could happen, etc. Although (from my understanding) not so sure Matthew McConaughey,'s character could have survived like that in the 5th dimension.... he would have had to have been in a sort of 3 and a half dimmension....or stuck in between dimensions to do so.....but that's getting way too complicated, so I understand why they did it like they did.

Overall, I'll watch it again or probably purchase it when it comes out on Blu-Ray.

As of now, I'd give it an 8/10.

This is exactly what I thought. Not that Matt Damon's character was unnecessary but the fight scene was cheesy as fuck. That, for me, was a facepalm moment.

Saw it for 3rd (and most likely final) time in IMAX today with my uncle. He'd seen the first official trailer with me, but was put off by one of the later trailers which I avoided. He ended up loving the film.

As much as I love the film, I'm not sure I'll be in a hurry to buy it on home video. All I've got is a 15" laptop and I think the film will lose a lot on such a small screen, will probably wait until I have a TV. I still haven't watched Inception since seeing it twice in the cinema! The Dark Knight films I've seen over and over again at home, though.

I really believe Christopher Nolan is the greatest director we have working today, and Hans Zimmer's scores for his movies are just beautiful.

Can't wait to see what they make next!

Tarantino is my favorite, but I think Nolan is the most skilled.

I enjoyed Inglourious Basterds and really got a kick out of Django Unchained, but Nolan's films move me more. The final scenes of The Prestige, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises, and Interstellar, are all extremely touching for me.

Well that's the thing, Tarantino's movies aren't designed to move you - they're just meant to be entertaining. He's amazing at what he does, but it's a very specific, very niched style of cinema - a style I enjoy more than Nolan's films, but I have no problem admitting that from a technical standpoint Nolan is probably a better filmmaker. Nolan is probably my second favorite, closely followed by David Fincher and Ridley Scott respectively. Ridley Scott would be higher on my list if his films weren't so inconsistent. He's done some beautiful films, but he's also done a lot of crap.

Yeah, Scott can be really annoying as a filmmaker because you know he has the talent, he just doesn't seem to give a shit about the script half the time these days. I thought Prometheus looked beautiful and I was into the film for the first half, and then about halfway through the film just became comical to me (I remember bursting out laughing in the cinema when Idris Elba's character burst through and gave some awkward expository dialogue towards the end). A friend forced me to see Robin Hood since I made him see Prince of Persia, and again, the film looked good, but absolutely fuck all interesting or gripping happened during that film. That's why I'm a bit way of Exodus: Gods and Kings (plus, they can't top Prince of Egypt :P ).

I think Prometheus is great, even with it's flaws. I won't pretend it's a perfect film but I think people give it way too much shit - truth be told, it's my second favorite film in the Alien universe (I only rank Alien higher).

I'm not a big Alien fan; I dig the first two, found the third excruciating, and the fourth a mildly annoying diversion. To me Prometheus just lost it when every character started acting like a complete idiot, and I think the Ancient Astronaut premise has been done to death at this point (and never particularly well). There were some good scenes like the opening with Fassbender (who overall was the highlight of the film for me) and Rapace's DIY caesarean, but I have no desire to watch that film a second time. I felt very blatantly cheated when they left LV-426 for a sequel, as it could have just been a one-and-done prequel in my opinion.

Fair enough - I can see where Prometheus would be a bit dull to someone who isn't as into the whole series. For me it's one of my favorites, though I can't really explain why since Alien and Prometheus are the only films I absolutely love in it. Aliens was solid I thought, but I'm not a big fan of the action route it took as opposed to the horror of the first film. Also, the director's cut is absolutely vital on it; the theatrical cut is almost incoherent with some of the stuff it leaves out. Alien 3 is painful to sit through (Ironically also directed by another one of my top directors), though it's not quite as bad with the director's cut. Resurrection was actually decent...until the last half hour, when it goes downhill real quick.

So yeah - even though I only love two of the five films and rank one more above average, it's one of my favorite series, up there with Indiana Jones, James Bond, and Star Wars. Go figure.

I got the Quadrilogy boxset so I've seen all the cuts. While I thought there were some good additions in the Aliens: Director's Cut, I thought the theatrical version got off to a better start as it was a mystery what happened on LV-426 (whereas the director's cut shows some colonists dying).

I still need to see Gone Girl, Zodiac and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo from Fincher. I love The Social Network, though.

It's been a long time since I watched the theatrical cut of Aliens, so I don't remember it too well. I agree with you about the beginning being stronger, but I think once they got to LV-426 they left too much out of the theatrical cut.

I haven't seen Gone Girl or Zodiac yet either; the latter is streaming on Netflix now though so I may watch it this weekend or next week. Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is excellent - I prefer it to the Swedish version, but a good deal of that is due to Daniel Craig.
