ITG
I'm no fan of CD. but I also have a hard time thinking of bands that would in the same genre. What other bands out there have songs similar to the album CD? Edited December 22, 2013 by InThisGrave
Chewbacca
None that I can remember. It does have some NIN traits, but it's definetely a different animal.

classicguns4life
Theres not enough material from new guns to define their type of musicYup.Also, just because there isn't anything that sounds like Chinese Democracy (which admittedly I can't think of any), that doesn't mean CD is particularly good or a sound anyone should have been trying at this point. Its kind of ballady with a mix of industrial stuff. Nothing groundbreaking, and nothing extraordinary.
ZoSoRose
Nothing...Which sucks for me considering I love the sound they have. With only one record its too bad I don't have any other similar bands to listen to
Amir
That's why I love ChiDem so much, it's a combination of the styles of so many different bands I like (classic GNR, Led Zep, NIN, ELO, Queen), and epic film score-esque symphonic arrangements mixed with hard rock. I guess post-rock bands like Mogwai etc. do the epic film score-esque hard rock thing, but they're not really "songs" like ChiDem. Wish there were more songs like TWAT and Madagascar. Only album that comes to mind from recent years that tried something similar was Serj Tankian's Imperfect Harmonies, with the string arrangements, guitars and synth, but it's my least favourite of his solo albums (he didn't even play any songs off it when I saw him in London a year ago promoting the album he did after that, Hara-Kiri). niceguy
Well, the band which created Chinese is not the band that has been called GNR for the past however many years. So, which nu-GNR are you talking about? The band who made Chinese is probably most similar to System of a Down or Korn circa 2002. The current band is most similar to any really great GNR cover band, take your pick.
DieselDaisy
I do not know why everyone is saying cd is unique. In my opinion it is merely a mix of 1991-GN'R Illusion style piano ballads (CITR, TIL, SOD, Prostitute) and '90s NIN and Korn style metal rockers (SR, Scraped, Rhiad, title track). Throw in a bit of zep/floyd epic hard rock (sorry and maddy) and hispanic (itw) and bob's your uncle. It is not that Axl invented some 'new style'. All he did was, genre hop.
Towelie
Ozzy Osbourne's Scream album reminded me a lot of Chinese Democracy.
trqster
Velvet Revolver would have kicked nuGn'R's butt if only it had Axl on vocals (especially from '06-'10). But then again....errr...it would be then basically (real) Gn'R...
phaseONE
The Stereophonics - musically have a very raw sound in a similar vein to original GNR .Worth a listen.
jekylhyde
Ozzy Osbourne's Scream album reminded me a lot of Chinese Democracy.I agree. Scream is a bit different Ozzy record, in a good way. It's his best record in years (if you don't count Black Sabbath's 13 as his record). It has good songs and sound wise it's great. The clean stuff sounds clean and perfect. Distortion has crunchiness, but also warmth. There's enough breathing room for your ears. Same things could be said about ChiDem.As far as songwriting goes, I can't think any band that sounds like Nu-Gn'R.
Mr. Dude
I've always thought of Chinese Democracy as a cross between Queen and NIN with a hint of Zeppelin, but still retaining an identifiable GNR sound. I think the ballads-TWAT, SOD, TIL, are the glue and backbone of the record and I feel the same way about the Illusions records.
Randy Jesus
It has the same feel as the first CD of the Smashing Pumpkins Melancholy and Infinite Sadness.

2x4
The only thing for me that comes close to CD is Serj Tankian's "Elect the Dead". It's probably nothing like Chinese Democracy but it has the same feel to a certain degree. Even Serj's "Imperfect Harmonies" has a CD feel to it. Side note: Brain plays on all three of the albums.
