Guest Len B'stard
I hadn't gotten around to watching it yet although i watched his one before, Lifes Too Short, thought it was alright. Watched episode one of this last night, actually looks really quite promising. Anyone seen it, whatcha think of it? I don't give a fuck about spoilers or any of that bollocks so feel free It kinda came and went reasonably quietly didn't it, considering Gervaises profile. spunko12345
Its really really good. I watched them all as they were on. Pilkington is great in it so's the bloke who plays Kev. Have a look at these out takes and see if you can keep a straight face. Love watching people crack up like this especially with Gervais's laugh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=riNhJ_V8Eag
ColdHeartBreaker
Loved it when it aired. Who'd of thought Karl would be so good at acting? lol. I'm not sure why so many people said the show was offensive, there's nothing offensive about it. Derek at no point in the show is revealed to be disabled, he's different from the norm, he's derek - and a lot of people missed this point. Guest Len B'stard
Only seen the first episode but it's a belter, remember the papers talking about like…piss taking of the disadvantaged and what have you, I'm only one episode in as i said but the tone seems perfectly compassionate actually. Sixes
The shine of Gervais has worn off for me.
Gordon Comstock
I watched it on Netflix a while back and wanted to like it, but thought it sucked. I like some other Ricky Gervais shows but this one didn't click

Guest Len B'stard
Watched the lot of em now, God, that was fantastic!! I can't remember the last time i saw comedy and pathos so seamlessly and perfectly and tastefully blended, i think it was magnificent. It's so human and so touching and so fuckin' hilairious. Pilkington just kills it. And this was unpopular, why?!?! It is just 10 out of 10 to me. Lifes Too Short I thought weren't all that but this is up there with The Office and Extras (and thats high praise as far as I'm concerned). On the basis of this season alone so far i think this has been set up to be one of the best sitcoms i have ever seen. It's so touching, i just love it. ronaldo9
I'm about halfway through the season and have really enjoyed it. Wasn't a big fan of Life's Too Short--it had its moments, but didn't like it overall--but this has been a nice bounce back from that for me. Same with Merchant and Hello Ladies--hoping that one gets picked up for a second season. Edited December 31, 2013 by ronaldo9

ronaldo9
Hello Ladies is a stand up not a TV showisn't it?HBO turned it into a TV series with him. Already aired over here, and think it's started in the UK.
Estranged Reality
I think it's fairly cringe-worthy stuff at times, even though there are individual moments of genius.Gervais is funny, I still listen to the podcasts he did with Pilkington and Steve religiously. But he's got his head so far up his ass sometimes and this show is a prime example. It reminds me of the Tropic Thunder gag, "You never go full retard." Derek, despite being the titular character, is by far the worst character on the show, and fairly uncomfortable to watch. I've seen Ricky defend him on Twitter as the best character he's ever created. Really? It seems to me like he was trying to prove he could act, but Derek never rings true. Is he mentally handicapped? Gervais says it shouldn't matter, but it does. Second series is airing soon and I'm curious as to whether he'll take any of the criticisms of S1 into consideration, but judging from his increasingly inflated ego, probably not.Oh yeah, and I liked Life's Too Short. Not sure why critics pissed all over it. I guess there was a bit of the Extras nepotism in it where it seemed like Ricky was just trying to show off his Hollywood connections, but I like both those programs regardless. Estranged Reality
Life's Too Short was better than Derek.Derek is contrived, man. It's Gervais trying to go for something 'deep' and meaningful and trying to show off his acting chops, but not a single moment of it rings as true or poignant as The Office, which never tried so hard to grasp for things beyond its reach (but got there anywhere). It's transparent to me. I watched it once and don't think I'll ever watch it again. That's my $0.02.
Guest Len B'stard
It has the exact same pathos that the touching elements of The Office do only there's more of it and the balance between pathos and comedy is a little more skewed in favour of the drama, i think it's up there with his best, i don't find it contrived, I find it achingly real.
