Guns N’ Roses insider and author Marc Canter gives an EPIC interview with LRI

Recommended Posts

No Axl found someone that he thought was creative and exciting and thought that what they were working on was going to be the next big thing

Duff has said in his book he likes the new band. And he is happy that Tommy is replacing him. Has Slash ever made a commnet like that to you about Robin or anyone else?

LRI: Slash ended up going to the Hall Of Fame but originally he put out a blurb in the press saying how the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame didn’t really mean that much to him before issuing a clarification a few days later saying he understands it’s a great honor. What’s your take on where his head was at on that?

Marc: He lies.
LRI: Huh ??!!!(laughs).
Marc: No, seriously Slash lies

LRI: They are one of those signature bands that really had five captivating personalities and styles to begin with.

Marc: Oh totally. They were a rarity because it wasn’t like one or three things working for them. Some bands it’s a great guitarist or a great singer or great drummer or songs or an amazing live show but with GNR it was the whole package, the sum was greater than the individual parts. They had every element and it fit together like a puzzle.

It's so true. They really were a five-headed beast! Edited by John Bonham

No

Not surprised one bit.
Why would Slash like someone who took the job he desperately wants?
You are right...he seems the most bitter out of all the ex-members and he's the one that actually quit lol

He didn't quit. He just didn't join the new band that Axl formed. In the same breath you could say that Axl was the one who quit the old band and started a new one. Either way it doesn't matter neither one wanted to work with the other ones terms.

Do you think it was best for both Axl and Slash to part ways when they did? In your opinion did they have at least one album left in them?

Did you ever picture a GNR without Slash? I know I didn't back then.....

Why was it Slash was the only one not willing to join? Didn't Duff and Matt join that new band? And with that said...does that mean Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum were technically in "NuGuns"?

Best post ever. Thanks, Marc. Sorry people are attempting to cupcake this section.

If what Marc is saying is true then yes they did.

And that "NuGuns" has just as many songs and albums as the current "NuGuns."

You guys are ridiculous.

Maybe Axl is not the evil dictator you guys make him out to be?

As a matter of fact I have never heard anyone say anything negative towards about Axl that actually knows him and that has played music and hung out with him.

eg. Zack, Neil Young, Lars, Angry Anderson, Brain, Robin etc...

In a way both Axl and Slash were both dictators to each other. Both telling the other one how things should be done and who would play in the band. They wanted different things and at that time it couldn't be worked out between them.

Nobody ever said that, however Guns may have just as many if not more songs written than the old band. How is it ridiculous, asking why, if Duff and Matt were in New GN'R, Slash wouldn't join?

Uh, because Slash was a huge fuckin' star and he didn't depend on Axl or some supplemental mega star the same way the other guys did, so he didn't have to put up with Axl's shit and the insult of being hired to be part of his own band.

What if Izzy was still around at the time? Could he have been the middle guy to make it work?

That's disrespectful to the other guys especially Duff.
