Chewbacca
Alt rock is pretty boring nowadays. Everybody is doing the same shit, tons of reverb and mellow vocals, looks like they're lost in a cavern. There's also those high pitched synth notes that are everywhere. It's hard to tell 'em apart.Music became pretty standardized. It seems that the urge to sound different and unique, experiment with your sound has long ago vanished. recklessroad
Needs a big kick in the ass just like it did back in 1985. Not just musically but image wise too. I don't really like alternative rock that much. It worked for about 5 minutes and then got old fast. It will not stand the test of time except for maybe Nevermind cd Edited January 6, 2014 by recklessroad

Apollo
Have you heard of Hardcore Superstar? These guys sound like they were right out of the late 80s and early 90s - in the GnR, Cinderella, Tesla, Aerosmith mode, not the warrant, winger, poison type. rocknroll41
I can sum up the current status of mainstream rock in one scenario:about midway through the 2013 AMA's (which were terrible btw) Dave Grohl and some woman who I can't really remember got on stage to present the award for best Rock band. The chick said something along the lines of "this year's rock nominees are a little...different. It's mostly folk-rock bands!"There! That's the current status of mainstream rock. It's dead. So dead that at an award show the rock category had to be filled with folk-rock nominees! In order for true rock to come back to life, the general public needs to realize some things: Imagine Dragons doesn't count. One Republic doesn't count. The Fray doesn't count!A new kid with youth in him/her and a gritty passion for true rock fusion (along with a spin of some originality), is what we need now if we can hope for rock to be saved. We need a new Axl Rose.
DownUnderScott
Queens of the Stone age are very good in my opinion. Going to see them in a few months here in Brisbane with N.I.N.I had hoped that the introduction of games such as Guitar Hero would spawn a new generation of rock - loving kids, but I don't think it has. There needs to be a new band that are born out of the gutter. Someone real and troubled and desperate. Much like GnR and the Seattle Bands. A group that is talented but has genuine substance and hunger.
recklessroad
There are a few bands out there that are good but still they don't have the image which is a big part of the whole picture.
