She found out I was a Rangers fan...

:lol: Naw, she was actually from the South, entirely atheistic and with no interest in football whatsoever. I honestly have no idea what I did so she also had no interest in me whatsoever, but it still bothers me...

I'm 1/8th Irish, which partially explains the Catholic streak in me.

My grandma's sister has views which align probably further right of the Daily Mail's concerning immigration, yet she's the daughter of Irish immigrants herself. :(

Not many coons in Ireland though dear. ;)

During antebellum America and the civil war, it was the Irish migrants who most opposed black emancipation in Unionist states. They all supported McClellen and the Democratic ticket when Lincoln faced re-election. The film Gangs of NY hints at this - with the draft riots, the worst civil unrest in United States history - but it was actually much more racist in reality. There were a lot of black guys being beat up.
