wfuckinga
Marc, you said you store 55,000 copies of the book. Have you considered asking Duff or Slash to take some on the road, some signed, some not, to sell at the merch booth to try to help sales?

recklessroad
I have thought about that but they weigh 2 lbs each thats 32 lbs a case of for 16 books which would be very hard to schlep around. Also if someone buys one they will have to carry it around all night and it will probably get thrashed. it would also be hard to know how many to bring with them. Anyways those guys are not really promoting GNR things and I would never ask them to. Steven once got some to resell but now he has his own book. The last thing I wanted to do was store all of them but it was either that or they get destroyed. That would have just killed me to watch that happen. The way I see it is I have them and when people want them I get it to them one at a time all over the world.
mECHsLAVE
It's really too bad that Axl wouldn't help with the book at all. Izzy, too. One plug by Axl on TMS or Kimmel, or even at a concert or something, and the rest of the books would've been sold, and they'd probably be handing you a contract for a 2nd printing. I understand, maybe, that he couldn't promote the Reckless Road book at the same time as the release of Chinese Democracy, because it's like inviting the ex-wife to the next wedding. But CD has been out so long now, and obviously the original band is now cemented in history and no chance of being confused with the current GNR. Axl should embrace those roots, because that music is still a big part of his show every night he plays with the current Guns, and neither are any danger to the other.
recklessroad
The problem is he was told that I didn't want to work with them. So he thinks that I betrayed him so as long as he believes that, he is not going to help me get the books out there plus there is that other problem, It has Slash in it. Even if the book didn't come out yet, he clearly still doesn't want anything out that has to do with the old band and was willing to let go of a good friend because of it. The only other option was is wait until some kind of reunion which I wouldn't hold my breath on or for him to die which would hopefully be when were somewhere in our 90's. I don't think that would be very fair for me to wait until i'm about dead to do it. I was given permission by Axl to put out this book, it just took me 12 years to get it out. If I had never asked him, then I wouldn't have put it out without asking him in 2007. So the book is out, I lost a friend and the main person that should be promoting the book won't have anything to do with it. So back to getting them out 1 at a time. The good news is everyone that gets it is very happy. So I must have done something right.
Padme
"he was told..." By who? He wants to bury the past. And everything related to the old band. But he is out there performing AFD songs.

But he is out there performing AFD songs. I know it's what got me in trouble. in 2006 they were playing 10 songs from AFD. How bad could the history be if most of the songs from the set are from that record.

DieselDaisy
I think this would work MarcMany people wait to buy things like that until after the show is over. Usually they keep the merchandising booths open - at least they do in the UK. Indeed, some of the programmes and tour books you buy, for although they are not 1/2 as heavy as Reckless Road, are really large. (I have some books with beer stains on etc.) Also posters are often sold at gigs and they are just as easy to trash. Often also it is people in the seats who buy stuff like that. It would be really fool hardy for someone intending to be in the moshpit to buy a book. But as I said, many people wait until the end of the show. You also would not need to have on display many copies; but then, if Slash, Duff and Adler play 30 shows and sell 10 copies per show, that is 900 copies sold!I was at a Neil Young concert last year and they were selling copies of Neil Young's last two albums. They were in digipack cardboard format.
ZoSoRose
Marc, I think you could most defiantly at least get Slash, Duff, and Steven to put the book on their site? Surely that would help a ton!I understand your thoughts about taking it on the road, though.
recklessroad
They sell their own book on their site so I don't think it would be fair for me to ask that from them. Maybe someday if I feel differently, I might ask them to do that
