Rustycage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c58EfMhd2YEThe piano makes this whole performance shitty. It added nothing special and wasn't even in time for the most part. The guy even adds turds during Kirk's latest solo. At which point James goes over and calms him down a little. As a side comment. I wish James would never have started adding his extras to the songs. It sounds like shit and is cheesy. Damn_Smooth
It's like the idiot has never even heard the song before so he just decided to play whatever popped into his head. I miss the days when Metallica fans would stone people for shit like this.
Rustycage
I'm not a huge fan of the S&M thing they did but that at least added to the song and had some cool parts. This shit is just all over the place. He was fucking their timing up constantly.
Damn_Smooth
Couldn't agree more. Sounded like it would have been a pretty damn good performance if he wasn't there to fuck it up.
Coma16
I didn't mind s&m but the piano didn't do it for me last night.
Rustycage
I had always thought on certain songs like Call of Ktulu, the rhythm guitar would take on sort of a violin sound. Granted I was very stoned then but it wasn't a horrible idea with the S&M thing.
bacardimayne
Piano enhances all types of music when it's done properly. This wasn't done properly.
LightningBolt
I think piano mixed with metal can sound really cool. I wish more metal musicians were willing to experiment with things outside of the metal comfort zone. It's a big reason I barely listen to any metal these days. That sounded bad, though. rocknroll41
Piano and metal can sometimes mix well, but it clearly didn't here!Glad to see that I'm not the only one who didn't like this performance
Amir
I like S&M, especially No Leaf Clover (which I think was composed/finished off specifically for that performance), but this is a bit of a mess.I liked Serj Tankian's Elect the Dead Symphony:
ZoSoRose
Love Metallica. Saw them twice this past summer and they kicked absolute ass. The piano here did not work, though. I do have to say the machine gun riff was awesome last night, though
dalsh327
Surprised they didn't go with a Lou Reed tribute. Trans Siberian Orchestra pretty much cornered the market on piano and metal.
bran
please metallica go away. i mean why keep hurting your legacy with stupid bullshit like this?
DR DOOM
please metallica go away. i mean why keep hurting your legacy with stupid bullshit like this?Haha, this. For the record, I've always thought S&M was a steaming pile too.The pianist in this clip's playing reminds me of Mike Garson (longtime Bowie cohort) -who is a prime example of piano working well with a rock band.
