"as unpredictable as the next song in our shows" - HE ACTUALLY SAID THIS

What a piece of shit. That is a blatant lie and false advertising. I don't care if he's going to shamelessly promote himself but don't fucking lie about the shows you're selling.

I wonder why he had such an image change? Looking at his earlier photos if he still had the image below he wouldn't look particularly out of place in GnR, there are a few of him (from his twenties I guess) where he actually looks quite a bit like a young Axl. Maybe it was wanting or getting the Crue gig that brought it about.

Please tell me he said this with a sarcastic tone.

I can say with absolute confidence i am, and likely most anyone in the musicians section, a better guitarist than DJ.

Then you must be a professional, or? No offense intended, just curious :)
Are you kidding me?

Are you saying that DJ is a better guitarist than every single human being on earth who isn't doing it for a living?

Do you honestly believe it works that way?

You really should have called yourself 'rhetoricalquestionguy'.
Being professional and being proficient are two completely diffetent things. For example, someone like Syd Viscous was a "professional" musician, despite the fact that despute me not being a bass player I could still play rings around him, but taking your argument it would seem he would be in the elite if bass players. I know this is in effect an argumentum ad absurdum but whatever.

OT, I dont have that much confidence in my own abilities as a guitarist but I would say that I too am a better player than DJ and a better songwriter but meh, its all opinions right? My mom liked my songs!

he never was a professional musician. He was an image, he looked cool that's it. On the record is all Steve Jones(i believe), Sid was the ORIGINAL poser.
Ah forgive me I was trying to pull an extremem example. Im not a huge Sex Pistols fan despite being british. I guess you could probably go for someone like Billy Joe Armstrong and the point still stands? Just my opinion.

Jeeze, take it easy. I was just curious. Dj is in fact a good guitarist, there are better ones of course, but that would still mean you're really good.

Not by the the logic presented earlier I.e. professional musician = being good on your instrument. Whether I think DJ is good or not or if I think im better or anyone is better is irrelevant. I was just weighing in on the logic of said arguments. Apologies if I offended you just throwing in my opinion man. Friends?

Can we judge that? post some of your work here pls.(you or anyone else).

Not a fan of Six AM or BC but there's nice n successful guitar work there. Successful is not always a good thing, especially in the music biz.

Teejay, you're a really good guitar player... But your band needs work ;)
Thanks :)

And yeah, the band does need work. We got signed to this small label that mainly puts out blink-182 pop punk sort of stuff so we were pushed in that direction. Only one of us is super I to that stuff and it shows. But now our stuff has more of a foo fighters vibe. I'll be sure to share that in the appropriate section when we get to the studio.

I'm in an Easycore/Pop-Punk band myself, we're on Eulogy Recordings. The label was bigger in the early '00s but it still holds some weight. Follow the dream man... Maybe one day you can replace DJ :D

Looking at past photos you can see the gradual metamorphosis. It's kind of like an emo teenager to grown man but in reverse. Below is an inbetween pic.

Someone needs to make a poster for The Curious Case of DJ Ashba™

Reading this horseshit I have to say that the guys that think they can sing better than Axl are kicking the shit out of the guys that think they can play guitar better than DJ. So far they've put up Don't Damn Me, Crash Diet and Perfect Crime with 2 Comas on the way, while the guitarists have put up one song that has absolutely nothing to do with GN'R and a broken Facebook link. I am severely disappointed with the guitarists.

Here ya go, it's not a GNR song, but it's hard rock. I always thought it sounded fairly Slashly.

And for lead:

Recordings were done in a studio live, no double-tracking/overdubs. I don't think I have any GNR covers recorded, but there's thousands on YouTube by people from all over the world, some of whom are incredibly gifted and much better than DJ, I recall one video where a guy covered Paradise City with his own solo, and many of the comments agreed it might have been better than Slash's (I wasn't fully convinced, but I wasn't immediately opposed to that idea either, which is saying a lot being a die-hard Slash fan).

Dj said there were three albums worth of material written when he joined the band.

He later said that he gave Axl a bunch of potential songs.
We know that BBF writes a lot.

With all this potential music available, why is Axl content to just sit on it?

They lie Groghan: Fortus, Ashba, they just bullshit because they do not know what the hell is going on themselves and they do not want to look like hacks in interviews. Personally, I think Axl has material from the Bucket era but nothing has been recorded since (sans, BF sticking some crap solos on those same tracks). But they lie their heads off. It is absurd, this band.

Yeah they don't wanna say "Axl shows no interest in the stuff I play him, to be honest I don't think he even listens to it at all"

or "I dunno when we will be recording, I'm not allowed to talk to Axl directly or unless he speaks to me first"

I've always wondered what's up with the Confederate tattoo. Isn't he from Indiana? Indiana ain't part of the south. Add another mark to the poser column.

Not to be an ass, but i don't see in which part you are better than DJ. Do you mean more skilled? There's 11 year old kids more skilled than you or DJ on youtube that even got to play with Ozzy, etc.

There's a lot of factors that make a good guitar player, i put you in the "nice effort" category. Of course, judging by those 2 clips.

I don't even like DJ like other previous guitar players in GNR, but he has done something right cos he's in GNR. Take a look at the 2009 threads on this forum. Most of the now "haters" where praising him.

You kind of made my point. There are 11 year old kids on youtube and random posters on fan forums who can play guitar as good as or better than DJ Ashba. Plenty of those people, myself included, work their ass off pursuing music. But to make it, there has to be a certain degree of luck, and it's not always the best people who get it. DJ Ashba is a prime example of a youtube bedroom guitar player who got lucky. I don't think DJ is a special talent.

No man, sorry but there's a lot more than skills to play guitar. There's stage presence too, there's guts, there's sweat and blood. You have to entertain 200.000 in some cases.

I saw another video of your band in youtube and im sorry but i would never pay to see you guys, not my kind of music. Maybe you can aspire to Blink 182, but then again you don't have the looks i think.

DJ possesses none of those. He had some friend in the music industry who adviced him to be a stupid, retarded, emo poser and gave him a whole in a Nikki Sixx band. Oh, TeeJay bending alone is better than Ashba whole's existence as a guitarist.

I was genuinely excited when he joined the band. He was awesome when I saw Sixx:A.M. and I was excited to hear what he'd do with Axl.

Since 2010 though I guess he got a taste of the "rockstar life" and it went to his head. I honestly can't think of anyone who tries harder to be a "badass" than DJ. I wanted to like him. I was a fan before he joined Guns. But it's like he tries to make me dislike him sometimes.

Interesting perspective, never heard of a pre-GNR DJ fan liking him less since he joined. I meet some DJ fans at show (invariably teenage girls with the notable exception of a tone-deaf Chinese kid who nearly orgasmed each time DJ was centre stage), and they all love him just as much if not more than when they were Sixx:AM fans.

Thanks to Axl and GNR, DJ and Fortus get to bang Natalia and Katarina. I would never tell the truth again if I were in their position

I'm a Sixx:AM fan before I knew Ashba was in GNR, but honestly, as much as I want to make statements to justify his being as a guitar player, he's not honestly making good cases for me to work with when he is working with GNR. Exhibit A is definitely the intro to SCOM at the Golden Gods. Terrible stuff. I'm just hoping the next Sixx: AM album would rectify some of his actions in GNR.

Maybe he really is just really bad at covering other people's work like he joked about in that Abu Dhabi 2013 interview? His solo spots aren't mindblowing but they aren't terrible. I'm still willing to give him and Axl the benefit of the doubt and see what they're capable of producing together (if that ever happens). Bach said way back in 2011 he heard a song the two wrote together, don't know if there were any Axl vocals but here's hoping.

It is even worse than that as Indiana was actual part of the Federal Union during the American Civil War!

Outside of the GNR perspective, Dj wrote a Motley Crue album, tours with GNR and has had success with Sixx AM too. So how bad is he really? He wants to just play the solos like the album for the most parts. He brings a similar "sloppiness" as Slash or Finck, he has some of that swagger from the original band.

"the Rick Rubin approach to writing" - is this the kind of record Axl wants to make? you know like remake AFD/UYI? or will they be working to make something fresh?

Apart from Dj not being Slash I think he's great. He's not a reason to shut down the band anyway. He's a pro.
