bigcountry
I have always wondered why Axl left the stage during the RQ, he did seem pissed or anything when he left the stage or when he first returned. Then when he came back on stage he didn't sing for a while and when he did start back to singing he quit before the song was over, then he looks pissed at the end and throws his mic at someone on the side of the stage. He also wasn't happy when the woman got on stage and hugged him.I think even with Axl not singing the whole song that it was one of the best performances of the song, it kind of showed off the band which did a excellent job on the song without the vocals. TheSeeker
He gave the woman who hugged him a thumbs-up after she got taken offstage - I think he just needed a cigarette and wasn't really that pissed offHe did chuck his mic at the sound guy before leaving, though

hudsonsaul
Don't know, but its one of my favourite performances of RQ and GNR moments,...gives the opportunity for anyone watching & listening to hear how fucking awesome Izzy is. Such great playing during that impromptu jam by him, sits in the pocket and grooves. GnR hasn't really done that since, or before. Also shows how raw and unpolished,...or 'amateur' (i say that with a massive grain of salt) Slash is in comparison, his attempt at soloing and improving over this sounds kinda bad, especially after Izzy's gracefully & skillfully handling of the situation within the song (slash chimes in with a run of the mill run of licks that doesn't quite fit imo, and the band loses this awesome groove for moment).

I thought that was obvious.Took too long to just be a cig. But he may have been just smoking one backstage and lit up another just as he went on stage. stella
What's funny is that I remember reading something in the 80s about how the band hated that performance. Duff called it "frightful." It's amazing how now it's the classic performance for the classic lineup and it's brilliant. In the uncensored radio/video of the concert, Axl says something about one of the recording crew people right before the band does "Rocket Queen." He's saying something like "get that monitor man out of here." Apparently it was some sort of ongoing issue. The band didn't seem at all peturbed that he was gone, though, and he seems very chill when he returns. So perhaps he just went off, vented, kicked in a wall or something, and was able to come back.I went back and watched it again. He's wearing boots at the beginning of Rocket Queen and sneakers at the end. So maybe he just needed to do his shoe change and decided the middle of RQ was the best possible time for it. LOL. The Metal Show interview doesn't count as an interview. It was more of a blowjob. But then again, the same could be said for the 2006 interview with Baz doing everything he could to try and look cool and failing miserably. Even bragging that he was the only one who saw the "It's So Easy" video when it had been online for years.
