about CD : "it sounds like guns in a more modern way"

Recommended Posts

It sounds like AXL ROSE's captain ahab demented vision of what GNR sounds like in his mind, and he has a captivating but very particular mind when it comes to a creative project, which used to permeate everyone's efforts for the better when they fought their ground but now that is far less possible due to how deep each member's roots go, Axl holds the deeds and nooses in this land. Not that the results will ever be less than intriguing and of a high standard imo but perhaps not as great as they ought to be cause Axl is a control freak, just the way it is.

Sounds like Guns in many places, all sorts of elements from the classic Guns sound next to sounds that are new to Gn'R.

Sometimes they work good together, other times it clashes, and I like that too.

Seems like Better did it best. The old and the new. There Was A Time sounds like Gn'R to me. And Street Of Dreams is classic Illusions.

If The World not so much, Sorry is kinda new to Gn'R too. The album is Axl's vision unrestrained. At least half of it.

that's the feedback I had about CD from a non-gnr fan, but who listens to rock/metal

so I guess axl's voice and music arrangements are what identify gnr. like many others band though.

Some songs like CITR sound like UYL era songs with a modern twist (minus Slash's blues sensibilities of course) but none of it sounds like Appetite...not one note.

"Nah, I didn't bother with that shit."

that's the feedback I had about CD from a gnr fan, but who doesn't listen to buttrock

so I guess Axl by himself crying about Steph isn't what identifies gnr and it takes the actual guys who made gnr, like many other band though

:P

Here's the only time I ever argue in favor of CD:

Me: What do you think of Chinese Democracy?

Music Fan: Oh man, that's garbage.

Me: Well, what didn't you like about it?

Music Fan: I didn't actually listen to it.

That's the only time I'll ever speak up on behalf of CD. As I've said many times before, it's not mine or any other fans responsiblity to sell it. However, I do like to have conversations with people who are informed on whatever we're talking about. So when someone expresses a bad opinion of the album, I always ask what they didn't like and most of the time the answer is the above.

I was just taking a cheap shot because I found the whole "axl's voice and arrangements identify gnr" thing ridiculous.

I can dig that.

What I posted sounded a bit contradictory anyway. I don't mean to say that I go around asking Joe Blow if they liked CD. I just mean to say that if someone else brings it up in a conversation about music, that's the path I usually head down.

ummm.... if not then what other voice identifies GN'R? O_O

The not too subtle implication was that Axl's voice and "arrangements" are pretty much all there is to your casual music listener when they are trying to identify what is gnr and what is not. Follow the logic....

Honestly, I think it's a trolling OP, but I could be wrong.

Did you take your friend's response as a compliment? To me it's like someone saying I look really skinny in a certain pair of jeans. What, so I normally look fat?

Considering these "new" tunes disappeared shortly after the album came out, rarely ever spoken of again (except here of course) I wouldn't misinterpret modern to mean good or anywhere near it.
