Radio 2 compiled their top 100 Guitar Riffs

Well at least Slash made the riff himself unlike Jimmy Page :shrugs:

Page has like 10 other riffs that he did make himself that could all be #1.

ok

but they choose WLL. a riff that has not written by him :shrugs:

(i'm a zep fan, but truth is the truth. Led Zep is the best coverband in the world, though. They are ALL fucking talented there's no doubt about that)

Page says it's his though.

"Jimmy Page: I came up with the guitar riff for "Whole Lotta Love" in the summer of '68, on my houseboat along the Thames in Pangbourne, England. I suppose my early love for big intros by rockabilly guitarists was an inspiration, but as soon as I developed the riff, I knew it was strong enough to drive the entire song, not just open it. When I played the riff for the band in my living room several weeks later during rehearsals for our first album, the excitement was immediate and collective. We felt the riff was addictive, like a forbidden thing."

You can hear him finding it and testing it out during the improv sections of How Many More Times throughout the 68 and 69 shows. Kind of how the San Francisco bit in Dazed turned into Achilles' Last Stand.

Mind you there's that bit in Hey Joe...
